The ideal Antipodean, especially in the lead-up to an Olympic Games, may well be trim, taut and trouncing the opposition on the sporting field.
But in one field Australians are, unexpectedly, leading the way as the heavyweight champions of the world — with arguably a greater proportion of obese citizens than even the notoriously supersized Americans.
A study released yesterday shows that Australia’s obesity epidemic has been considerably underestimated, with almost 60 per cent of the adult population overweight.

I've always thought of Australia as a sporting nation but then again, this just shows us how good sports has done them..? THEY'RE STILL FAT.

Any idea what proportion of UK Adults are fat cause we can't be far behind.

Okay, this news is actually old. Atleast 2 or 3 weeks. And the main problem is, is because we only have less then 25 million people, and i think its 26 percent are fat. :\

China being the exception, due to the 'one child policy' they spoil their kid rotten by giving it lots of stuff and feeding it very well, then when the parents are older they expect their child to look after them like they looked after the child, so they knowingly expect the same treatment back.

China is getting a lot more obese.

Yes but it also has 1.3 billion people so that's of no surprise at all, it means they have a lot of people to feed and provide for, it also doesn't mean the money is shared out, especially as it's Communism.

Indeed but it isn't a developed country either, it's more second world like the guy above said. A lot of people in China are living in conditions not much better than the Third World.

Being Australian I haven't really noticed like 1 in 4 people i see being fat but I suppose I do notice a fair number of 'chubby' kids and stuff around. I'm not though, I'm probably borderline underweight ;(
