Advice Needed (Xbox)

If I were to get an Xbox, which one would be best? I don't know a whole lot about the Xbox (I don't have a clue about Elite and stuff), although if I'm right then theres an arcade, premium and elite) I'm just gonna be doing casual gaming and online play mostly.

I've heard a bit about the Xbox 360, and that seems to be a good one (from what I've heard). The only thing thats stopping me is that I have a slimline PS2 with literally about 40 games, although I may sell them.

And roughly how much would the 360 be and what are the best games to get?

I wouldnt get arcade, it has no hard drive or ethernet cable, I recommend premium :)

Best game I reckon is call of duty 4 and halo 3

mine was £220 for premium and any £40 game

if your looking for better online i think you need more hard drive space so i would go for the xbox premium if not elite

Yes, you have to allow incoming and otugoing connections for your wireless and your bridge on the laptop though - this can cause problems but should easily be fixed with a Google of the problem. However, this can cause lag depending on what speed your wireless is running at and what programs you have running on your computer. It's best to get a wired connection ;)

Premium is best, although you should know the main advantage to Xbox is live. That comes with a £40 price tag a year.

However you can pay monthly and you get a free month with the Premium.

Yeah thats true but it isn't always best to buy per month.

It's up to him really.

Get a premium, it comes with a remote, the console (obv), and the headset. And if you need more accesories, ring up microsoft and say that you have an accesorie that is broken, and they will send you a new one right away. But make sure you dont do it too often, or else they will start asking you to send it back (the thing your claiming for, that your saying you have but it has broken)

Get the premium or the elite, the elite in my opinion is just a differnet colour and a bit more memory

£220 for premium and thats done me for the whole 80 odd games ive got.. lol

I've had my Premium for around 2 years now and I've never filled my 20GB HDD and you've got about the same chance of getting RROD on a Premium as you have on an Elite.

Plus you get 3 years warranty anyway.

Premium, the Elite is best if your going to cram your xbox full of space consuming things, but for most people the premium is the right size

Yeah premium is your best bet if your just doing some casual gaming, arcade is pretty useless for online.

Premium is better, if you want more space in the future you can just get 120gb hard-drive, if you wish.

when buying XBL (if you do.. and i presume you will) i reccomend buying off ebay, i saved 30quid when buying a years worth.

And unless you want to upload lot sof music/films etc to your xbox, i reccomend a premium

Remember that the Premium should be getting an upgrade to a 60GB HDD soon (As announced at E3 - Released in the US/Canada late Aug) - I would suggest waiting and going for the 60GB Premium :)

Thanks, although I doubt I'd be filling the 20GB Harddrive, let alone a 60GB one :D

What sort of stuff can I put on the HD? Music and stuff?

Music, Pics, Videos, Game Saves, Games.

Excellent, I only have 3GBs of music. How large in size are game saves & games?

Erm, few kb each. The games are 1gb +. Demos go from few hundred MB - 1.6gb biggest i've seen.
But I have 1 album on, 1 game save and a few videos. Bout 20 games, 5gb left.

How likely is it that I'm gonna get the RROD? I know I have a 1 year guarantee with MS wherever I buy it, but what about after that expires?

You can download original xbox games such as Halo, they are around 1-2GB but I havent really bought any as you can pick up them in GAME for like £10
The RRoD is 10% in the new Falcon Chips, thats the first 2 years, the insurance covers you on the RRoD for 3 years, so you'll be okay and they add an extra year on whenever you do get it, so if I got it next year and I had 1 year left, I'd have 2 then.
About music and video, if you have windows XP you can stream it off your PC if it's close, thats what I do, I stream my music and video's from my PC onto my xbox360, it doesnt use up any space. Game demo's are around 200MB-1.5GB but you can delete them when your done and redownload them whenever you want.

Demo's and videos take up quite a bit so it could be worth while holding off considering the 60GB when released will replace the 20GB and will therfore cost the same :)

But yeah, you have a one year standard warranty where if it breaks they will fix it - After that, you have a 3 Year RROD warranty which I actually believe comes into play from date of purchase so its only really a 2 year warranty.

Game saves tend to be really small unless you get DLC which then makes it a hell of a lot more, Demos range from around 100MB into around 1.5GB, Videos can sometimes be a hell of alot (Especially the MS Video Rentals), Arcade games are anywhere from KB to MB (Cant give specifics, but I haven't seen an arcade game that was over a GB)

That may mean a wait until September. I like to use as little space as possible. My whole music collection is only 3GB, so even if I do put it onto the Xbox there's still 17GB left. My laptop will be near the console so I may just save the space and use the laptop for music :P

Yeah, i bought mine for £75 in december.

Basically its £40 for the game as normal, then the £30 for the controller, which is the normal price for any controller really.
