For the size of the UK, it is a very powerful country / region. But if it was the same size as US, would it be more powerful?
UK owns US anyway so obviously UK.
the UK, most likely.
It's not about land size, it's about where the land is. America is wealthy as it has lots of excellent land for farming and growing things, it also has a lot of coal, oil and gas, same goes for Canada.
I'm sure this is a phrase lads are familiar with 'Size isn't everything'
Depends, the UK probably has a better airforce and navy but Canadian troops are well trained, but you said more powerful not the best army. Canada has a lot of resource's and if Canada wasn't there I'm sure America and other bits of the world wouldn't operate as well as they do.
Power isn't all just military and size, I'd say Saudi Arabia which isn't a really big country, a bit bigger than Germany probably is one of the most powerful countries in the world. It has a good army but the reason why Saudi Arabia is powerful is because it holds the worlds oil, if it stopped supplying Russia and China for example, it would probably have more political influence (AKA Power) than nuclear bombs :P
We're one of the most powerful countries and we're not big as it is, same goes for France and Germany, though I guess we're not as powerful as the USA. Together we are though so having allies must count for power too.
Obviously the UK, considering how powerful we already are in comparison. Also, we own Canada lOL.
not realy fair more than 75% of this forum is from europe.
but still id say UK because bush is a terrible leader
also americas going trough a strugle
More space, more wealth.
More space, more tax-payers.
More money, more power.
More power, more wars.
More wars, more un-wanted deaths.
The UK, just 'cos we've been around longer.
I'm sure the uk because if the uk was as big as the us and we had the same population and Gordon Brown still taxed us the way he does now the uk government would be richer and easily more powerful using money. Notice how a lot of things are cheaper in the us? and that isn't just because of the exchange rate :P
Well considering we founded america, I'd say the UK... As Americans were the same as English people at the start of it all...
That may well be true but it doesn't mean we're more powerful, they've got nothing to do with the Commonwealth. It's a bit irrelevant tbh that we founded them, we may of guided them but they still came out on top and won their independence.
History won't allow Britain to progress if we just bring the oh so great British Empire into everything.
The US was born from the UK.
But at this current state and all the US is far more poweful.
I dont think that size is the most important factor in a nations power. But obviously it helps :P
Doesn't matter anyway, the rate we're going there will be no need for oil by 2020 we will just use renewable energy / nuclear power (which is awesome).
The UK is one of the most powerful countries in the world despite its size, so there's no doubt in my mind that the UK would be the most powerful.
England, cos we are smarter.
nuff said.
UK and US are powerful for different things I guess, but logically speaking, since UK is so powerful now, adding more land space gives more land for development which will make it stronger.
Hell Singapore is like (you can drive across it at its widest point in 45 mins) the strongest if we are the size of USA :P
The UK people are what makes the UK so successful. We're naturally strong-willed, unlike the Americans who stereotypically are selifsh and scheming. No offence to any Americans here, but you watch any American TV program & then compare it to something like Eastenders and you can see why the UK would be so much better if we were the same size as the US.
Mind you, being such a small country has given us this power to fight back to show that we're not small, we're actually quite powerful. Cor, quite a question that.
if all that land was in the uk, it'd be like the desert
Well and also the UK was at one point the world most powerful but it lost a fair amount of colonies after time but nothing lasts forever but still we had a quater of the globe as the phrase says 'the sun never sets on the british empire'
Definatly the US becuase we have wayyy more nuclear weapons than any other country we could blow up the earth around 70 sum times with our weapons so the UK shouldnt be too hard to destroy.
The US, because they have more natural resources.
i guess but still the us would destroy the uk with one press of the'big red button'
We're not on about a US vs UK War, we're on about would the UK be as powerful as the US if we were as big.
It's all down to the resource's of the land and it's location.
Anyway, there isn't one big red button to blow up the UK, you would need permission from the UN to launch any nuclear weapons, the chances of that are near enough impossible, and it's unlikely you'll ever be able to launch them anyway as launching a nuclear weapon is so incredibly difficult with the amount of protection the US have on them. Most the nuclear weapon's in the world have expired anyway, no one has permission to make new one's and nuclear weapons only last about 40 years, after that you need new one's. I wouldn't be surprised if none of our nuclear weapons worked.
UK would be more powerful, hands down.
No it isn't pmsl.
Russia & China are, yes the USA is a major super-power in todays world.
But you are very uneducated to this topic.
In terms of resources (Oil, so on) America wins. They have oil in Texas etc.
But in terms of military power, we are. We have the strongest and most trained army in the world, and also the best trained special forces (SAS).
