use an calculator dude
Ok, somewhere along the way there should be brackets. First work out all the bits like - 97 divided by 6 or something. Work all those bits first and it will be a lot easier.
I always get A's in Math andCalculus, Trigonometry and Geonometry so here's some tips:
Remember BIMDAS
B. Brackets
I. Indices
M. Multipy
D. Divide
A. Add
S. Subtract
Follow those steps to work out your problem. That is prbably going to be a decimal and yes, there should be brackets (many) to make that equation within reason :p lol.
It's BIDMAS by the way! :p Just thought I'de correct you there. I'm the one getting c's and d's in maths. Havn't yet got my GCSE results though!Quote:

Just to confuse you more i have been taught
B O D M A S
this is quoted from a mathmatical website
(B)rackets
(O)rder
(D)ivision
(M)ultiplication
(A)ddition
(S)ubtraction
I am assuming that you know what everything in BODMAS means apart from "Order". Order is actually a poor word to use here "Power" would be much better though BPDMAS doesn't quite have the same ring to it!
In Canada we use a simple precedure called BEDMAS:
B-Brackets
E-Exponents
D-Division
M-Multiplication
A-Addition
S-Subtraction
*NOTE: Division and multiplication are solved from whichever procedure comes first. The same goes for addition and subtraction. Example
= 4 - 2 + (7 + 8 - 4)
= 4 - 2 + (15 - 4)
= 4 - 2 + (11)
= 2 + 11
= 13
I hope that helped you. Good luck with future homework
Yes, I was taught B O D M A S aswell.
well yea we dont have BODMAS drilled into our heads as much as you guys but i does ring some bells :p
Yeh ive heard of
BIDMAS
Not BIMDAS OR BODMAS :p
But then again theyre still the same..
i only have heard OF PEMDAS :eusa_thin
paranthesis
exponents
multiply
division
addition
subtraction
Hi i have ownly heard of bodmas
Brackets
Of
Division
muiltiplacation
addition
subtraction
I suppose different teachers use different techniques, but they all mean the same thing anyway.Quote:

I was taught BIMDAS, it doesn't matter which comes first, Multiplication then Division or Vice Versa or Subtraction the Addition or Vice Versa .... Where are all these variations coming from!! Order?? How does that explain a thing? :s
Well they probably all work, I found it confusing anyway.
i use pemdas
Perentaciese
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Adding
SUbtracting
or this

and the || is for the absolute value, which is a number closer to zero so the absolute value of |-3| is |3|, and the absolute value of |3| is |3|
sorry i dont get you, 3 is just as close to 0 as -3 is :sQuote:

ok nvm ill wait till i get to that in my maths lessons :pQuote:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
I learned that in like 7th grade heres the answer...
im year 8th shhhhh :o heres the answer, -|-3|=?
well theres an invisible number, "1" so here it is re-written -1 x 3 = (since -3 was put to its absolute value) so the answer is -3
lol ok theres really no point in going on because i dont understand it at all :DQuote:

hi use a calculator though bracket the first and last equation :)
People the " | | " isn't brackets, brackets are " [ ] ", the " | | " is for the absolute value as posted a few post's above
I was taught
B
I
D
M
A
S
and
B

Am i the only one who has never heard of bodmas bosmad or WHATEVER?
thanks for the help :) it really helped me out
Lol bodmas is confusiling. i really don't do well in maths though i am somehow in one of the top classes :S. Our teacher is making us do a REAL exam with the year ahead of us when we are only in 3rd year (scottish education goes from Primary 1,2,3 etc up to 7 and then secondary school 1st year, 2nd year etc up to 6th year!)
