Building a PC from scratch!

Okay so I'm building a whole PC from scratch, want to know what you guys think about what I'm getting!

Processor:

I'd get the 40 gb one.

Screen, speakers, keyboard, mouse I have sorted. What you guys think? Is there anything else I'd need? if so please state, I'm new to pc building :P

Stephen!

Get rid of the CPU cooler and Hard drive cooler. They are both not needed. Besides, the CPU cooler you listed is an AMD cooler and the processor is Intel. You will get a cooler included with the CPU.

Also, I would recommend you order all the parts from the same website in order to keep delivery costs to a minumum. It would also help if something were to go wrong with the items.

A crap system overall, and your processor is Intel, but your mobo is AMD plus processor cooling is for an AMD? Also the case comes with fans?

You seriously have no idea, so just step away from the computer building!

I don't think it will work. I had a look at a few of the things and you have a intel cpu, but the mb will only support amd cpu.

you can't have an intel cpu and an amb mobo silly boy.
Also 40gb hd? :| I have more than in music/media, think you would probably need a bigger one.

Look, I'm not a computer jargon and I'm pretty new to building one. I don't know what is what so I made a thread on here for some help, there is no need for your cocky and arrogant reply, daddy doesn't spoil me unlike you - I earn my money the hard way.

Just to point out guys, this will be a standard PC, not going to be used for gaming (GunZ maybe).

Well the chances are your motherboard will have onboard sound, so you don't need a sound card unless you're an audiophile (somebody who loves the best sound quality). Graphics card - maybe. If you want to play Gunz, i'd recommend a 8500GT or even a 8600GT if you are able to afford it.

CPU is the processor right? And mobo I'm assuming is the motherboard, if I was to get an intel motherboard would this work?

tbh why have you gone with a celeron processor? I have one of them in my old computer, 4 years old.

If you are building a system, you want it to be still valid in 4 years, not gone back 4!

Sound you probably won't need and if you want to use Vista Home Premium's 'Aero' the graphics might not be suitable so a graphics card could be advisable. I'm also not sure if the motherboard would fit in the case but I don't think it would as it's Micro-ATX.

You also don't have an Operating System, an OS is like Windows XP, Vista, Linux etc... You'll also have to buy a rather pricey OEM copy unfortunately but it's cheaper than the upgrade.

umm £200-300 is a bit on the cheap side...

if you look to pay £550 you could get a decent computer which will still be fully working and quick in 3 - 5 years time.

As I said I'm not made of money right now, had a few clients, done some cheap things. 3-5 years time I'll be working full time so Ill be able to grab a lovely little PC.

Are you sure that's very cheap even by eBay standards and if you could link to the auction that'd be good.

Darren, if he's using Vista I see no reason why it won't be working in the next 3-5 years, Vista will be fine till then and if he's only doing a bit of browsing and office then I'm sure it'll be fine. Who says he'll be using it in 5 years anyway? :S

Yeah it's really really cheap, I could go to 350 max, but really this is without OS, screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers :) Yeah vista is fine, I could leech some ram off my uncle if I didn't have enough.

400gb HDD

i got that for less than £200

don't listen to darren, he just tries to put EVEYRONE down and thinks he is the master of every task :blue_doub

Ebay would probably be the best place for me, found a 3ghz cpu for £20.00 :P Thanks for saying that, darrens probably running through the jargon thread stickied in this section :P

You do realise that mhz/ghz doesn't = performance?

a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 is not as good as even a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo.

yeh, jsut to add onto above post.

3ghz is only a single core

whereas the 2.4 is a dual core which realy makes it 4.8

(if this is wrong please say, just that's what i was told lol)

You ordered the parts above? It's not a particularly good selection. For that proce range an AMD X2 will probably be the best bang for buck. If you've not already bought anything let us know and we'll spec something a bit better.
