What's the latest Pokémon that's out now? Like a proper one like pokemon gold and stuff...
Diamond/Pearl on the DS but if the last one you played was Gold (Silver & Gold will always be the best ever pokemon until a re-release with better graphics) then you'll be disapointed.
I haven't beat them yet as I'm training up my Pokemon using the Elite Four.
Last time I went in with Level 84 Raquaza and a Turtwig and Charmander at Level 33 on Exp. share. I got to the third person and the balloon thing got me. I'd already let most of my life been taken by an earlier battle so I knew I wouldn't beat them. :P
A good trainer can beat the elite four with level 50's. Fact.
I am not one of them.. :P

You can beat elite 4 with just a level 70 rayquaza and 1 pokemon to use to revive the rayquaza if it dies

Training one Pokemon is all good.
Don't be reliant on Legendarys though, they can have there goodness in the one off but all the time they're useless really.
I have 2 boxes full of Level 100 pokémon.
All EV trained and IV bred.
