if the word 'shat' isn't filtered then why did I get a warning for using it?

Shat isn't really a swear word and it shouldn't be filtered, although it is an alternative for the proper swear word.

Exactly, there are loads of different spins on swear words and it's not practical filter everything which is why the infraction is "Inappropriate language/Avoiding the filter" as opposed to just "Avoiding the filter".

I've been infracted for saying shat before lol even though I (quite rightly) argued that it wasn't avoiding the filter because it's a past tense word that isn't filtered. I thought the recently filtered word was going to be this, surprised it still hasn't been dealt with

That's because the infraction is called "Inappropriate language/Avoiding the filter". There are bound to be words that have been missed out with the filter and this way, the infraction covers this.
