The pointless locking of threads

Over the past few days I have noticed that management have been un-sticking and locking decent threads. I think its fair enough that you are un-sticking some of them, but some of them are good thread. Then you go and lock them. I can't see any valid reason why these threads needed to be locked, people were still using them, there was no arguments, there was no trolling and there was no mod edit on the thread about why it had been locked.

So basicly there is no good reason why they had to be locked. Below I have some of the examples of these threads, I have only listed a few because I can't be bothered to find the rest.

There has been an announcement and many feedback/complaint threads on this all ready. All threads of this kind have been closed due to spamming and, if you would like to see a certain one re-opened, you need to PM either nvrspk4 or Professor-Alex with a good case with reasons why you think the thread should be re-opened (some are currently being considered for re-opening). Not all of the threads were being spammed but it was much easier to close them all at once and let members put forward reasons why some of them should be re-opened.

I see what you mean, but they shouldn't have been closed in the first place. They are not breaking any rules.

It would have been easier to look at the 10-15 stickyed threads that have been removed and make a decision that way, rather than closing them all with out looking at them.

There were way more than fifteen but I know, and I personally agree, but that's the way management decided to do it.

I disagree with some of the threads that have been closed. Some of them were genuinely useful to me although I understand some of the threads, especially those in the music forum were used pretty much as a free post count thread I don't see how it can be justified to close some of the other threads and yet we have the forum games section open and running; surely that's exactly the same case more or less?

I remember MAD saying that it's only your post count and it doesn't matter. What matters is the quality of your posts, not the quantity. I can't really see why the management can justify this based on the comment MAD made, unless they think the opposite to what he thought when he was a GM. Unless of course I have completely missed the point in them taking this action.

Nah, if they did close it people would moan.

If you wanna crack down on spam and pointless posts then why don't you take away post counts from forum games. The only reason some losers go there is to get an extra 50 posts or so a day.

IMO, they contributed the most to the community. In the setup thread we would have loads of discussions about different setups etc...

The Achievements/Challenges thread shouldn't have been closed.

Post your hairstyle thread, shouldnt be locked, it can help new people choose hairstyles.

I think there was one in the console games forum closed aswell, based around games you own and games you've recently bought. The last few posts in one of them were 2 members discussing a game :/ They seem to of been closed with no thought in mind, and suggesting they're re-opened means they're wasting their own time again :/

The setup thread was also quite interesting too. These "what are you doing" threads weren't even that bad to begin with, you would think the way they handled this situation that it was a cancer upon the forum :P

In fairness to management they are trying to improve the forum by trying out different stuff like this, however when they see threads like this which make it quite plain that people disagree with the changes they should reverse the decision and in this case re-open threads :)

I know it wasnt to see whether members agree but what i'm saying is if you have a large amount of members agreeing one thing then management shouldn't ignore what the people are saying and do someone else. Plus as a few other people argued, some of those threads didnt have a lot of pointless posting but were closed anyway.

Surely you agree that they just wasted their time with this whole situation? If threads were being spammed in, target the threads that were actually being spammed in, not threads that were seemingly harmless e.g. Console Games, Technology etc.

The 'What was your top played...' thread was hardly spammed, people posted once a week max as that's when the Last.FM stats are updated. So that shouldn't have been closed really. Re-open it please.

What I find stupidest about this rule is:

They say they didnt contribute to the community, however in the "Post your setup" threads in both console gaming and the technology section there were always people wanting to know where to get certain items that another member had. Also the dumbest thing ever, the "Post what your listening to" thread stays open, so im guessing that contributes a hell of a lot does it? and of course its not spam so i guess ill post what im listening to every 15mins so im out of the edit limit :)

by at least the same 4 people

They should all be deleted, so all the people who spammed them and are complaining, have something to REALLY complain about :)

Not really, if the moderation team actually moderated the spammers and issued warnings and/or bans to the certain spammers instead of simply closing the threads it would have been fine.

What I find VERY STUPID is the fact the post what your listening to is the only one to stay open, becuase posting a song isnt classed as spam but posting lets use an example like: "Post your games" they are practically the same, people may want to know what new games are out? names of certain games maybe?

Plain dumb decision by management of this forum as usuall in the past year or two.

I know some of the threads which got locked where pointless... I agree with that, but the "Post Your Setup" thread did contribute to the community and did foster a community. If you look in the thread, you will see that lots of discussion does actually occur. In the majority of cases, we quote eachothers set-up and query them on it. We also generally discussed reccomended computer parts and so on. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the definition of a discussion?
I'm sorry to have to send you this, you've probably been getting a lot. If you have, surely this shows you that we enjoyed that thread and it was actually, contributive.

I can't speak for that case admittedly but the Post Your Setup in the Technology Discussion section (post pics/spec of your PC etc) that was rarely, if ever, the case.

But yet they can post "Poison - Alice Cooper" and that is considered a constructive post..

I can see why most were closed, but I can't see why 'what was the last movie you watched' was closed if 'what are you listening to' remains!

I agree with whoever said they're dealing with this situation the same way a school does, by punishing everyone when only a select few ruined it. None of them should of been closed without due care and consideration. Nearly all of the threads had a point to them, only a few actually were used for spamming reasons. They've wasted time and effort with closing all of them, especially when they're deciding whether or not to open them again. What a waste of time :/

It would appear no thought went into this when the pros clearly outweigh the cons.

Cons =
Pointless posting

Pros =
Gives people ideas to download, buy, re-create, watch, listen to and so on, whatever the nature of the subject is.
Creates interesting, meaningful discussions with a point.
Opens up a gateway to seeing what a member's environment, personality, likes and dislikes are.
Creates a care free environment.

Does no-one else see the problems here?

That was becuase some idiot was posting about his setup with no actual pictures, and then decided to **** off pretty much most of the members of this forum by insulting "the brits"

Point is, you must know by now people have had enough of your stupid decisions on here, your only making the forum in a worst state than it already is. You lot will finally see the errors in your ways when the decent members of this forum that make it the community it is stop taking all this crap from you and just leave, then all you have left are new members who are about 10 and spell stuff like "omgz, i is goiiin here"
