My question is what do you think of genetic engineering from a religious point of view.
My opinion is that god created us in his image and that if we change the genetics of a human being to whatever we like then this is no longer gods image. However i do like the idea of using it SOLEY for removing things like disabilities.
Just wondering what you think of it ???

We were made in God's image then we fell from grace when Eve consumed the apple. Hence we may look like God but our attributes, our jealousy our greed are nothing like his.
So who gives a flying **** as it'll help alot of people's lives :)
Plus God is a nonexistant idiot.
if you change the 'religious point of view' into something different so that people would give their honest opinion on the matter, this debate might actually get somewhere. Good idea btw. :)
I personally think that it's a good idea to use stem-cell research which may help cure diseases in the future. I have a very basic view on the science around it so I'm not going to embarass myself. I am sure, however, that there are some ethical guidelines that scientists would have to follow so the whole 'religion' argument, I don't really understand. Anyone?

It depends what they use it for really if it was to be used to help cure a deadly illness I'd have no problem with it
I think all religions are based on flawed ideals and those who put their faith in such ideals are idiotic. Genetic engineering is sheer brilliance and people who blieve in "God" are holding back such brilliant sciences.
I don't have a religious point of view - so yes, I'm fine with 'Genetic Engineering' as long as it benefits us, for example finding cures, making food suitable for harsher environments etc.
Who cares I want an army.

Simple answer is no, its not even debate from a religious point on veiw. God made us how he wants us and we will ve good at and bad at what we are ment to be good/bad at. before we are born he has a plan for us. Messing with that would be messing with Gods plan.
So you can't debate what is a belief. What you can debate it what veiw is right. Personally i im against all forms of it as i take a religious veiw :)

this is getting into a religious war on whether God is real or not, he's talking about your religious views on GENETIC ENGINEERING! Not fighting between whether God is real or not.

Why not alter ourselves? Mankind is slowing down evolutionary wise, maybe even fully stopping? Maybe our next step is man-made alterations, we're already doing things like re-attacthing limbs, face transplants etc. Why not go further?
I was watching a lecture on ted.com (inventor/scientific thinkers videos from the TED main place) and a man was theorising that if we put enough money into it, it would be possible within a short amount of time to extend human lives, slow the aging process etc.

But Evolution takes millions even billions of years the actual 'modern human' species as we know it has only been around for roughly 200,000 years so I wouldn't say we have fully evolved. As a huge fan of Darwin, I know evolution takes a long long time, I'm going on the "evolution for humans is slowing down" in that a few evolutionary biologists are coming out now and exclaiming that evolution for humans is slowing, maybe has even stopped. It's too late to remember everything said but it was basically something along the lines of that because we are mixing with vast amounts of people, it's making mutations less likely to occur. Again don't ask me to explain it as I'm incredibly tired xD
The whole idea of the aforementioned though doesn't seem to make clear cut sense, so I'm quite highly sceptical, my point about with human evolution slowing down wasn't to state it as fact, more of a hypothesis for if natural evolution stopped for humans, maybe we could progress by altering our genes ourselves, also we could do what evolution would take to do hundreds of thousands of years to accomplish.
