I have had 3 iPods and each time it has had less storage space than I payed for. I had a 4gb nano and it had 3.5gb, I had an 8gb nano and it had 7.3gb and now I have a 16gb touch and it only has 14.5gb. Is this the same for everyone else?

yep my iphone i had lik 6.9gb
Thats because of the firmware etc thats on it and the way its formatted. E.g my 1tb external has 934gb.
Its because theres a 500mb partition for things like apps and general system stuff
The disclaimer at Apple says
1GB=1 billion bytes
Actual Formatted Capacity smaller.
Indeed it's just how things are formatted and firmware. For example nothing is actually 1GB, in reality it is 1024MB.
Everything is like this.
I noticed this, it's quite annoying when you need more room for songs :{
It's all to do with how the computer recognises it lol, something to with binary. It's the same with hard drives
No it doesn't. I get 8GB on my iPod touch, the firmware takes up some of that. It appears to be less than that because of the way the computer reads it. There are different way to recognise 1GB. Some things recognise it as 1024MB and some things recognise it as 1000MB.
yeah my 16gb ipod touch has 15.5 or summit like that
All to do with gibibytes and gigabytes
Yeah, 32GB with only 29.77GB in iTunes...
Mhm, same with my Touch. It does say on back of box, or in the box or something that it is formatted less.
