Nah you cant, you should be able to get a debit card though :S I've got one fgs, ask nationwide to see if they can upgrade your account cuz thats silly.
No you dont, thats for a credit card. Your bank is silly.

I think it's 14 for debit cards? Might be 15 though but you can definately get one and buy stuff off the net :)
i feel slightly stupid now lol!
but thankss for the answers :]
I'm sure my bank gave me one like 3 years ago without me having to ask. Maybe my mum did though.
I got my first debit solo at 15. Now im 16 ive got a Barclays Visa debit card and still got my natwest solo card.
www.halifax.co.uk
Halifax Expresscash gives over12s debit cards. Its what I use.
I remember being confused because someone said they were changing Solo to Visa Electron (that's what I had) but I didn't hear anything else of it. Online I just put it down as Visa and it seems to work :)
i've got a nationwide smart card too and i ******* HATE it, i'm getting a debit card at the end of january hopefully.
I first got my debit card at 18. The bank sent me it to replace my credit card.
Can you apply for a debit card online ? Atm I only have a barclays cash card.
Its definately 16 to have a debit card but 18 for credit cards.
Go to your bank and set one up, you will get it in about a week.
you have to be 13 years old to have a debit card, i had one at 14.
With the nationwide you have to 18 to have a debit card so i gave up and opened another account with the halifax lol
Nationwide are a wierd beast, They only issue the cashcard and then full visa debit and you can't get Visa Debit until your 18 (Unless you get a Visa Electron card branded as a Visa Debit)
Quick guide to cards.

Credit cards are issued at the age of 18 as per full visa debit (Rules set by visa) but Visa electron/Solo are issued from 11 upwards

HSBC is 13 anyways.
I've had a HSBC account with a Solo card since I was 13, I'm always buying stuff on Amazon and stuff.
