The Letter 'H'

I've always wondered how it should be pronounced - I pronounce it 'Aich' a lot of my friends say 'Haich' so what is the correct way to pronounce it I've been criticised for pronouncing it "wrong" but I think I pronounce it right - so what IS the correct way??

I say "Haych"

It depends on where you come from i reckon and accents. But Haich for me!

The 'correct/proper' way of pronouncing H is 'Aitch' but I say 'Haitch'

na aitch sounds better imo

ive never heard anyone ever pronounce it any other way than "aych" haha.

Aich is the proper way of saying it, haich just sounds common to me.

what wod beginning with H do you know you say beginning with aitch? its like hello, you pronounce the h not jsut say ello, hard to explain lol. some people might say ello but thats because of slang

no i think he means when you spell it, wouldn't you say "aitch" or whatever?
i say it like haych anyway

its hard to explain what im trying to say. I know the proper way is aitch and it varies between different regions. Its how youre brought up really.

but what im trying to say is to say haitch, it makes a different noise to aitch. and when you use h at the beginning of a word you pronounce it more similar to haitch than aitch. as in:

ha-lo not ay-lo, hell-oh not ell-oh, happ-e not app-e

probably because haitch has a H at the beginning that's why you think it's right, and i do know what you're trying to say.
& thanks, i never get a say in anything cause i'm right?:S

i tend to drop the H from all words starting with that letter. like i say (h) ello, (h) appening, (h) appy etc. etc.

the only time i'd actually like not drop the H is when i like try, and not speak naturally or whatever :S

lol you should know by now im only messing :(

and, no its not that it has a h lol, its just the way you pronounce the two

either one.

i went into nerd google mode and found a website about the letter 'h' LOL.

I say aich - I knwo alot of people who say Haich... The correct eloquentic way of saying it is 'Aich' though.

I say aitch and today, somebody said "any" how you would say it.. and my teacher said its not proper english and is pronounced " Annie " lolllll

Haitch

I've always pronounced it as 'Haitch', my english teacher used to say that English people pronounce it as 'Haitch' and American people pronounce it as 'Aitch', although I'm not really sure if its true of if she was making it up.

"Aitch". Knowing Essex though, it's one of those annoying Essex things :rolleyes:

All my friends laugh at me for saying Haich but I just like it more :(
