The Confederations Cup is held every four years, before a World Cup year. It's contested by the winners of each continent cup (Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania and Africa) along with the previous World Cup winner and the host of the next World Cup, bringing the total of participating teams to 8. First of all, England winning either UEFA Euro or the World Cup wouldn't happen. Not even with Fabio Capello, who I consider one of the greatest managers of all time :P

But if a team does win the its confederation tournament as well as the World Cup, then the runners-up of the World Cup would be invited to participate in the tournament. However, if the World Cup winner won its confederation tournament and the World Cup runners-up is the host, then the runners-up of the World Cup winner's confederation tournament would be invited to play.

Not really. It's the best vs the best - it's like the World Club Championship plus it's a way to test the host nation of the World Cup held next year.

I love this competition. Anybody see the games last night? USA needed a 6-goal overturn to go through and, low and behold, they beat Egypt 3-0 and Brazil beat Italy 3-0 so they went through :P.

How the hell did USA go through in that group?????????

Italy are the kind of team who never play well leading up the majors but also do well in them.
