Forum Chopping Block

Hello,

Well, it's been mentioned that one of the reasons the forum is running slow of late is because of the large number of forums contained within the board.
I imagine there's a great deal non-viewable to me that jin is likely eyeing up, but of the main forums around i think there are a few that could easly disappear without anyone missing them.

If anyone has any major objections to the forums i'm listing, then probs a good idea to post here. Or if you have some you'd like to add.

I do want to point out this is just a suggestion, chances are there may be additional reasons why some forums need to stay that us members aint privy to.

That said, without further ado my list :p

Debates (2 forums)
Member debates is going strong as always, but the main debates section lives on despite never really getting much use, and now having been void of any debates for a good few months.
My suggestion here would be remove debates and finished debates (maybe just move them in to the member debates forum for archive purpose's)
And just have the members debates forum there on its own (possibly renamed to just debates)

VIP competitions + ended VIP competitions (2 forums)
May just be me but it doesn't look like its been used in a while, and honestly (even more so in light of the removal of the ability to have full VIP's by habbo) people may as well just join the more active normal competitions.

Ask habbox staff (9 forums)
This ones a little more fringe as i'm not really sure how many people make use of it. Personally though i think alot of people would just ask here in habbox feedback, or in the relevant section forums. Although normal members could answer as well, personally i'd say thats more helpful as more often than not the normal forum members will be able to answer the querys anyway and have more time to spend doing so than the staff members

Graphics (1 forum)
This is another area where there seem to be more forums than really needed, but is again an area i expect i few will disagree with me on.
My suggestion would be to combine the elite sections together (both none habbo and habbo) Possibly use the prefix's people think its important, but there arnt really enough threads to warrant the need for so many forums IMO.
The nominate a elite could possibly be moved inside the elites section also, as although it seems a bit much to be, i quite like the fact elites are user voted.


All in all that's a possible 14 forums that could be merged/removed as long as no one feels they are particularly needed. There are a few others too, such as the VIP tips/tricks which seems kinda pointless.

But this is just an initial suggestion.

The competition forums as a whole could be slimmed down a lot (i don't think you mentioned it), it doesn't look frequently used - one forum hasn't been used since 2008.

Plus, like people were saying in another thread, blogs could go.

I find it interesting how we removed the 'users viewing' thing.

Also...

the food and drink forum could go. the threads go back to last month on the first page, and the ones that are there are just so pointless (like this/that, favourite food, what r u eating), and the non-pointless ones would fit alright in discuss anything since hardly any threads are made

True, i think alot of the content in there would be better suited to the general discussion forums anyway :)

Also forgot about competitions, i think you may be right though as 6 sub forums seems a bit much :P International Competitions espeally as it only has one post ever :O

The whole reason that it was removed was because there were too many Forums, and Jin said that we couldn't have both, hence this thread. If we can get rid of some, then maybe the users viewing thing can come back.

I would like to personally comment on this one. I say a definite no, simply because posting in feedback does not always get you the specific answer but often answers from people who do not know what they are talking about or wish to be quite rude, it is also not personal to members of staff who can most likely give you the definite answer.
A person may also want to ask a question without others being able to but in and cause a fuss as to why they are asking that question.

I think it is pretty useful and used regularly enough to keep.

@CHA!NGANG: I never really used the who's viewing this thread feature to begin with, i'm primarily just wanting to get the whole forum sped up a little as it can be quite laggy :p May be an idea to reintroduce as an optional feature though, so users who want it can have it, and others like me who don't care can avoid wasting the extra query :)

I see where your coming from, but from a quick sniff though alot of the questions asked do seem to be pretty generic "/ Equally if a staff member really was required, a user could always just PM them.
Additionally another solution may be to simply combine them in to one ask the staff forum, so the ability to ask is still there, but far fewer forums are required in order to do it?

Though again, these are just suggestions :)

8/13 threads are unanswered and the last post was made in April. Plus only 4/13 of the threads actually seem relevant to the forum.

For the news reports forum as well, only 3 threads made this year, 2 of which are unanswered. Last post in April.

Ask the Content team, only 3 threads this year.

It just doesn't seem worth it. Maybe some links for people in the department to PM or something instead would be more efficient.

Well this is probably very silly because I am the most techless person I know but when I was first a mod we used to weed out the forums of the spam,
closed threads etc etc. Would this make any difference at all?

relationships forum could surely remove the 2 child forums Gay/Lesbian/Bixsexual Chat and Straight and just use prefix's aswell

also the spam forum, i'm sure you could prune posts from like a year ago as their hardly going to be missed... and fact its spam helps that fact so you're not going to lose some post counts.

something like 650000 posts in spam?

2-3 people posting in it once per day does not warrant it's own forum.

Me and nvr were going through the forums last night deciding what is to be axed and what is to be merged. I will pass this info on to him all the same, we are looking to implement these changes as part of the sunday updates.

I'll probably get flamed, but... the Flight Simulator sub-forum could go, the most recent post was 5 days ago.. They can always use a mega thread for their screenshots instead...

I don't really see the point with the Technology problems forum, most people just use the 'Technology Discussion' forum instead anyway, I doubt anyone will be that bothered from having 2 extra threads a week in that technology discussion...

all the tech forums are active and used.

Some very nice ideas here! :)

Just a few of my own...

• 'Non-Habbo Related Graphics' and 'Forum Graphics' should be merged, as they are basically the same thing
• The 'Linux' subforum should include, and be renamed, to 'Linux and other Operating Systems' to widen the audience
• 'Relationships' and 'Education' could easily be merged into 'Teen Life', as most of the topics in Teen Life are based on Education and Relationships
• 'Habbox VIP announcements' isn't really needed as the last thread is half a year old, and now there are limited VIPs, there aren't exactly any more announcements needed
• VIP announcements, and all the subforums under 'VIP Lounge' can all easily be merged together, including VIP rules, features etc.
• 'Habbo Tips and Tricks' is in no way needed, and all the current threads could just be moved to 'Habbo in general'
• VIP thread dump isn't really needed either due to the incredibly limited subforums and VIPs now, or at least all the current threads in there could be cleared, as there are a lot of them

Could Categorized Rare Trading not be merged with Normal Rare trading and maybe you could get rid of International trading or have prefix's for it in each trading section?

Also maybe you could get rid of Habbo Ideas and Habbo Events & Public Game Rooms and just put them in Habbo general?

also

merge Elite Alterations and Animations with Elite Alterations and Animations (Non Habbo Related) because it is abit pointless having two septate ones..

also in staff forums i dunno if some of them still have Spam threads cause i know the rare vales did
maybe delete that and other staff Spam forums cause there is a Spam forum?

Prefixes can be used, surely? The forum is a waste of space - rarely used and isn't a key feature. :P

The Ask the Habbox Staff forums are kinda pointless too, could always just have the one forum rather than however many there are now - it's not THAT used :/

It's not the amount of forums and whatnot that cause the problem, it's the software and hardware, vB have so much ******ed code it's unbelievable.

That's been mentioned before, Jin won't be happy because he thinks it'll start a vB vs. IPB discussion :P (even though most of things vB have created have been on IPB for years and work better, but let's not go into that. I've heard Jin has strong hands :()

Now now don't be biased just because you're one of the few active users in there, flight simulator forum is magnitudes smaller than the TV & Film merge.

It may as well be added to the computer games forum as no one uses the computer games forum, the flight simulator forum isn't very popular and the computer games forum is even worse so they may as well be merged together and you still wouldn't have a very popular forum but it'd be an improvement.

I never denied it like you said I did on msn to be honest. I know what is in the sub-forum and what isn't. And for all what you know it could actually be moved in the next updates. ;).

I've seen alot of changes have been implented to the forums layout but for some reason http://www.habboxforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=209 still wastes 3 whole forums to do the job of one?
The debates section having an empty main folder and a never read past debates forum is IMO one of the most pointless and unneeded forums left on the board these days.

All thats really needed is to move the member debates (renamed to debates to the main board), remove the current debates forum and the past debates forum (dumping past debates in to members debates)

Currently the 2 extra forums involved are just a bit of a waste of space, and its kinda annoying having to click though to view the actual debates every time, rather than just heading straight in there "/

I have decided to rethink my earlier suggestion of getting rid of the flight sim sub-forum, it should have it's own dedicated forum right at the top of habboxforum! And every one should be required to post in it once a week or their accounts get banned, also all games forums should be merged into one for the suggestion that the flight sim forum should be removed. Besides, if it got moved to a thread then people would get so confused if jetengland popped back up...
