Why has the word master bating been banned? And yes, I avoided the filter to let people know what the word is.
silly really, there should be no filter i think.
its not like people havent heard the words before....
so the little boys and girls who moderators obviously think must use this site don't have to see such vulgar words!!!!!!
*******
o thats filtered too
THAT'S what you were talking about in the 'Is Sex Painful' thread, I couldn't work out what the filtered word was :(
If the word sex isn't filtered I don't see why that one is... we allow sexual discussion in the teen forums (as long as it sticks to the Forum Specific Rules).
I'm sure nvr will post clarifying this matter or to say he'll remove it.
I think there should be a thread somewhere or something to post queries about filtered words?
You answered your question in your other question...
This forum is for teenagers. The more naive teenager (or the younger ones), may not be exposed to such discussion. The word is rude - you wouldn't say it when talking to the Queen for example.
Additionally, the word could be filtered due to the fact that the discussion could lead on to even ruder discussions and words.
why wouldn't you ask the queen if she **********d? *REMOVED*

Is it too late to list words that need unfiltering?
pubic - I think nvr said he was removing it (probably for Sunday)
dick
And Master Bates :)
It's so hard to say "Tom, **** and Harry" with those pesky stars :(
I wouldn't say "YouTube", "MSN", "sex", "penis", "Gamecube", "bottom", "crotch", "spotty", "puberty" and many other words to the Queen, so what is your point? It's odd using her as an example anyway :S
Sex is either of the two categories (male or female) into which most organisms are divided.
We all have shared opinions. There isn't much in life which is absolute, so there's no point trying to fight this point out to the death.
In my opinion, it should be left filtered.
GommeInc, I agree, however I was discussing the fact that even people of ages older than "teenagers" wouldn't use the word, so saying we're teenagers thus it shouldn't be filtered doesn't make a difference.
Why do you use such an example as that? :S This forum isn't a posh forum like you would talk to like the queen, :S:S:S:S:S!
It's a word used by teens, and every teen that uses this forum or any teen anywhere is of course exposed to these words, even if not, there's not harm in using the word anyway :S
It's a technical term for something that comes up (no homo) quite often in the teen section, so for the sake of discussion it makes sense not to have it filtered. It's quite simple to see when it's being used wrongly as with any other potentially offensive non-filtered word.
e5, please read my second post.
The filter is not just in place to prohibit words being shown to younger users but also so that it discourages others from swearing in every possible sentence and post they make. There is no need to see a swear word everywhere when you have the ability to control and think about what you post.
Alot of the words have been in the filter for a long time and were added in relation to being words not acceptable to see constantly on the forum should one post it. The word you are referring to could be used in discussion, however not often and not in the most appropriate terms.
I would imagine Nvrspk4 will make a point as to whether it shall be removed from the list.
To be fair hardly anyone on this forum can spell it anyway, and I believe only the correct spelling is filtered?
There's plenty of other ways to say it, it's how most people get past the filter, "Choking the chicken" or "Walking the dog" for example :P
I think the option of a filter should be taking into consideration, Similar to the habbo system. Habbox Forum members should be aloud to choose whether to have it turned on or off. My view on this is if the filter was taken off would people act idiotic? Forum members would need to be mature on the matter rather than Immature and think there 'cool' for using inappropriate language.
At the end of the day masterbation (spelt correctly) is a term that could be used in the teen forums.
In my opinion the term masterbation (spelt correctly) is a lot more appropriate than alternative phrases like mentioned above, infact I would quote some different ones but I don't think it'd be appropriate with my role on this forum.
Obviously banking with a w is filtered with good cause, but ************ shouldn't be as sex isn't.
Btw if nvrspk does decide that this word is to remain filtered, can we filter it spelt "masterbation" too, because I don't think it'd be fair if we were handing out filter avoidance sanctions for a mere spelling error.
Yes, I bring you back to your point of the Queen there Danny. People adapt in the way they speak with different people, of course you wouldn't use such words in banquets or indeed when talking to a high ranked dignitory. But for a healthy discussion on any teen forum, that word should be allowed in my opinion.
It is really quite simple to remove this word for healthy discussion. Obviously, if people start using it to insult other members, you could get your Mods in full gear to deal with the issue. It really shouldn't be too hard, it's not a rude word and most teen forums do allow it without any questions asked. Or you could unfilter it for just that specific forum?
No, it's a forum for Habbo users and other people who wish to be a part of the community.
Its been discussed and I think that Mentor explained why its not feasible due to the way vBulletin filtering works.
I'll discuss it with management, my gut instinct is no but some good points have been raised so we'll see.
You made no such discussion in the previous posts :/ You just said you wouldn't say it to the Queen, the Queen is someone which should be considered with utmost respect and should not be someone to engage in masterbation discussions anyway, especially when people who do tend to see her, only see her for a few seconds. Your point isn't at all valid :/
And people older than teenagers do use the word, there's no age limit. It's just not discussed because there's no point in discussing it day in and day out, but that shouldn't limit to completely blotting it out, when masterbation comes into play when you are a teenager and is a completely mature discussion when you let it be, which is what it would be because if it wasn't mature the 4 letter W word would come into play.
When you look at the words allowed, masterbation and its other words are all fine to be used, especially when the main words which make up a discussion of masterbation, i.e. penis and vagina, are already unfiltered.
Technically speaking, if it were to be unfiltered, just don't tell the majority because all hell will break loose. That lesson was learnt when the 5 letter word used to describe being poked with a needle was unfiltered, though it was re-filtered just when discussions of "P" were dying down :P
Either way, it is pointlessly filtered. I'd be interested to see what reasons would be to keep it filtered, and I suspect very minor and irrational reasons which are so small but ruin it. The word itself doesn't break any forum rules, it is neither rude nor unacceptable unless people want it to be..
im sure that even 'naive teenagers' would have heard a naughty word before :O
You are all correct. Teenagers forum, Queen different class, and so on.
However I still believe the word should be filtered due to the discussions and conversations it could lead to.
Like what? Masterbation is the proper word to use so it won't be funny to discuss by default. It's only funny to discuss masterbation when substitute words are put in place. The only discusions would be:
Oh look, Jake's masterbating again
Hardly worthy of an article in The Mail in terms of rudeness, and in context harmless. It will only be bad to use when mentioned mid-thread of something serious - but that goes for anything, like saying "Penis and vagina!" mid-thread about something serious.
Keeping it filtered solves very little really, when you can use alternatives even though the actual word is mature and accurate, it's only the alternatives that are the ones to worry about.
hi nvr
incase u havnt realised habbo is aimed at 13+ yr olds. that's teens. stop bein so pedantic.
in other news, mastErbation is stupidly filtrd cos it is sex with urself, isn't it? and sex isn't filtered. @whoever said u wouldn't say it to the queen - just go and take a huge lol at urself :$
We all like to have a good mass debate :) Okay, sorry, couldn't resist. :P
I agree with Richie. If there's trouble with any offensive words, I'm sure a moderator will swoop down on their prey and remove it, so I don't see why the less-offensive words should be on the filter (like ***** and massdebate etc).
*oops it's not unfiltered yet. the one that there was a thread about earlier. :)
*REMOVED*
Edit by Sammeth. (Assistant General Manager): Please don't spam, avoid the forum filter or post inappropriately. All of these things pretty much apply here.
Yeah but I wouldn't say to Barack Obama "how is your sex life?" "is your wife kinky and horny?" "how nice are ur wife's honkers?" etc etc. The Queen, Osamabama, anyone. It dain't matter. It's a fact of life my friend. If it stays filtered sex might as well be filtered.
ur agumnt is flwed.
Why not? ;)
I would want to be different and say 'WASSUP LIZZIE' if I ever met the Queen. I probably wouldn't dare but I'd so want to, hehe. :D
Your argument makes no sense though. There will be no Queens or Presidents on Habbox Forum (until nvr becomes President Nvrspk the Fourth). It's just a group of teenagers where the majority of them know exactly what ************ is.
It's not a naughty word at all :S It makes up a slight fraction of sex, and sex is filled with vile and nasty things yet is perfectly fine to talk about. Penises are filthy, and you wouldn't want to know what comes out of vagina :S
You also wouldn't sayto Barrack Obama "What did you have for dinner?" or "How smart are your children?" It depends on context. You're meeting Obama, you're clearly there for something else other than talking about how you play with yourself. The Queen doesn't strike me as someone who feels the need to talk about masterbation, whether you know her personally or have never met her in person before.
Seriously, there seems to be more reason to have in unfiltered than filtered, as there seems to be no argument other than "it is rude", yet no reason as to why "it is rude". Yet arguments for having it unfiltered all come with thought out reasons. It's only fitting that it should be unfiltered :/
i think H0BJ0B just don't like to use rude words

That kind of that ain't allowed here
First of all, no its aimed at 11+
Second of all, the point I am making is that this isn't a forum designed to cater to teens, it is a forum designed to cater to Habbo users to give them a discussion zone.
The argument that this forum should cater to the teen psyche is simply wrong. The fact that a large portion of our audience is teens, fair enough. But the point I've made before is that maturity level and age are not necessarily correlated. We make our decisions based on the maturity of our members, not of their age.
I think everyone here knows that we have 12 year olds who are more mature than some of the 17 year olds.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sorry. What?
Anyway, you say we wouldn't talking to Obama or the Queen about it, and we wouldn't, but on this forum we're not talking to people as if they have royalty or president status, so it doesn't matter.
Personally, it should be unfiltered - we have various other words that mean the same thing that are unfiltered (******* etc.), so we might aswell have the correct term unfiltered.
