So, the Ipad has been announced, what do YOU think of it?
I think it looks good - It could be useful - I know im interested
1) It's an iPad
2) It's has the complete usefulness of a small ladybug attacking a lion
3) It has no functionality at all and will only be useful as a glorified book reader
4) HURR DURR IT'S APPLE IT MUST BE GOOD!!!!!!!
Get a goddamn clue instead of just wading in spouting crap about what it is or isn't. It's a complete flop and marketed incredibly wrong.
People might have different opinions..
It would be good if it can be used as a proper laptop.
Yes and in this case their opinions are wrong. It has almost no functionality whatsoever, it's just a giant overhyped iPod with a few more built in apps and less functionality. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not revolutionary nor is it, as they call it, "magical".
Eww at Jewish Troll, seriously considering a lot of industry experts are still undecided and with differing opinions of those who are decided you can't comdemn everyone elses opinion on it as wrong "/ They can be wrong in your opinion, yes, but you can't claim it as fact.
I agree with what JewBear said though, it has no place in the world and should be consigned to the scrap metal heap as quick as possible. The people who I've spoken to have only been able to justify it by reciting the features of the iphone which doesnt wash with me because the iphone exists but its cheaper.
Nobodys opinion is WRONG as such..
I mean yeah, Ok - It may have the features of an iphone, but it just seems.. Useful, I mean.. i could just grab it and watch a film - Take it on holiday and take the pictures off my camera..
Playing games on the 9' screen doesnt look bad either.. It looks entertaining.
I love it. For a while now I've wanted a device (that's smaller than my Macbook) which I can use for browsing the net, watching videos and doing work. Luckily for me, the iPad does all of these things p-e-r-f-e-c-t-l-y. Multi-tasking would be pretty nice but I'll easily manage without it.
Ya, it's a complete flop...even though it hasn't even been released yet. As for marketing, again, it hasn't been released yet and so they haven't even started marketing it.Quote:

I personally like it, but wouldnt get this generation of it. I mean think how many things it replaces in the house! Calendar, phonebook, netbooks used primarily for the internet, 7" DVD players, can be a photoframe etc. All in one thing.
I could see myself using one in the future.
EDIT: also, multitasking is alright.. on a mac or PC. Where you can actually see whats open. But the way that its all set out, theres no way that it can easily be done without changing it completely. I know i know, they couldve developed a new OS for it, which they may do in the future, but i dont see it as a major downside, more, a minor inconvenience
EDIT2: Appulous and installous <3
Some things -cough- netbooks -cough- would be much better to be honest. Particularly if they were running a trimmed down OS -cough- Google Chrome OS -cough- that boots in just 7 seconds and only uses a web browser.
Everything that can be down on the iPad can be done on a Netbook
I shall reserve judgement until I see one in person, but first impressions? It's crap.
Multi-tasking could be via Software Update, all the touch screen models are capable (technically and as shown via Jailbreaks) but I suppose they will add a camera in time.
I like it because it fin which is good if wanna take it on hoilday and dont want to take your "bulky" laptop with you.
it looks like an iphone on steroids , i love my iphone and i love this more to be honest, but seeing as im 15, im not going to save for one and buy this one, il wait for christmas till theres probably a much newer version
Compared to what HP/Dell (some PC company) revealed at CES, it's a total failure, seeing as they are heavily rumoured to use a different version of Windows 7 (a tablet form of the OS was revealed during the show as well). If it used a real OS it might be fine, but because it uses a different version of the iPhone OS, it just isn't appealing.
Calling it the iPad was a terrible mistake too. It's common business practice to never give two products similar names, especially when "iPad" is just the American pronounciation of "iPod" :P It's one thing having a product fail, but the name as well? *shudder*
It also looks dreadful too, with one button attached to the front at the bottom, and about half an inch of border around the screen. It is just an iPod Touch that mated with a digital photo frame :/
your completely unnecessary and unprovoked anger make your opinion far less substantiated and reasonable, theres no reason to be all offended by a giant ipod. there's ways to express your extreme distaste for something without getting your panties all bunched up, and usually people will actually take you seriously if you use those methods.
that being said it seems like apple is working backwards by releasing an ipod that's bigger instead of smaller. and yes, it basically is a giant ipod. im scratching my head to find a reasonable use for it, tbh.
The good -
Okay processor
Huge screen and good quality
Very responsive touch screen
Built in 3G/Wifi
Built in bluetooth
USB ports
The bad -
No WebCamera
Could have had more Hard drive space (128gb)
Could have a bigger + better processor
The ugly picture frame that its surrounded by :@
All in all its an okay device, its like when the first iPod Touch came out, it was underwhelming, but revolutionary. It's just like when the first iPhone was released, underwhelming, yes, but still revolutionary. I'm sure Apple will nurture, market and develop (the 2G model next year, already thinking about it!) - this device in such a way that by this time next summer the iPad will be huge.
You can now bet your bottom dollar that the iPhone 4G will now have multitasking (because of the 1ghz processor they will use from the iPad), 1ghz processor, and 64/128gb memory + a better camera (5mp).
The big winner = iPhone.
I just don't think teenagers are the target market for this product. :)
If you were someone in america floating about all the time working on the computer, I can totally see why this would be handy.
You know what'd be a sweet? A 15" iPad. Kinda like half way towards the Microsoft Surface where it could be used as a "Hub" for the home.
i envisage this as a device that in a decade or so will be popular in every household. the things we saw on TV and film where houses are controlled by a single device; heating, curtains, phone calls etc, that is what this is the beginning of, but a more mainstream version..
:'( didnt see flyduos post :P
I think 15" would be to big IMO. :/
I think the size they have got is perfect, just want them to get rid of that awful picture frame around it.
The OS just looks wrong on it at the moment, but hopefully theyll develop that like they did on the iPhones/iTouch.
I don't really see the point of it. If it was like an actual laptop then I might be interested, then again it would only be a Mac. I haven't got an iPhone either so I'll just wait until they make a really good one of them and get that. I have no need for whatever this iPad is supposed to be.
I agree with GommeInc as well, it just looks like a giant iPhone or iPod Touch and the name is terrible. The point about the American pronunciation is a good one too, although you would think they would realise this at the off, given they're all American anyway.
its a belfast ipod!!!!!!
I think it's crap at the moment, although I haven't seen it for real and we will wait until then. But I was really expecting more from Apple with their "tablet", shame they didn't produce it. :(
