Yeah agreed, that is just taking away pupils' privacy and I'm surprised a school would actually spy on them.

I'd like to point out not all schools are like this, the most I spy on is the kid's desktops whilst they are using school desktops, I have my own man parts I can look at if I wanna see that kinda thing LMAO.

We're not allowed to use them, but we do.

Those kids are under 11 at your school though seeing as it's a primary school. I would hope you don't have the genitals of an under 11 child or the wish to look at them :P

I think for safe keeping though if I'm ever given a school or company laptop I will put some black tape across the webcam to be sure.

I think this is inappropriate. If they were worried about what the kids would be doing, they shouldn't have just given them out. It doesn't take a genius to work out that teenage boy + laptop that isn't going to be seen by parents = ... :eusa_whis

I'm amazed the US schooling system would of allowed this :S It breaks so many laws about privacy, and I'm fairly certain if those laptops were given out under contract it would not of mentioned this... The school should be closed down :/

How old were they and was it a private or public school?

My school have cameras in the school now. £22m makeover and its all like open plan and in like one 'area' there is about £60,000 worth of laptops, computers and interactive whiteboards so for that I understand it. But not like installed in laptops to see every single student + it would fail as they would have to employ people to watch every camera which would take time etc.

US Patriot Act broke down a lot of US civil liberties allowing loopholes like this.
