New "graduation tax"

Basically earn more post grad > pay more. Would replace tuition fees HOWEVER i see it highly unfair that I am going to work extremely hard to become a lawyer and do a service to the country, which i don't even come from since i have to pay international fees even though Guernsey is under UK law and is in the UK, and then afterwards i shall pay more because i earn more which i have worked for and now need?

SO on the other hand someone who comes out of A levels slips into a communications degree then goes into a lowish paying job which they could have got without the degree and they pay less because the own less because they worked less harder but don't worry the ward working lawyer, surgeons and scientists will pick up the pace after having trained possibly twice and long and as hard than this communications person who probably used University as one big freshers week orgy.

It's ridiculous for both the students and the state, very unfair. University fees should stay in the current format except raised a lot higher. This makes sense because the lawyers, surgeons etc like yourself will still be able to go to University, because once they graduate with their degree they'll have no problem paying off their loan as they're earning so much. But the people getting ridiculous and pathetic degrees they don't need to waste a few years won't bother going to University which is a good thing as it costs the state a fortune and doesn't really benefit them. Seeing as you wouldn't pay a lot of money for a degree you wouldn't need. That's a lot fairer and it'd sort out the education system but it's by no means popular :P

Just scrap EMA. Will no doubt save tons of money and reduce teenage pregnancy rates and binge drinking too.

I haven't really looked into it in a lot of detail but it seems to be a life sentence for those going. I understand it is going to be a 2 and a half % levy for 20 years! Ouch! :(

Yes it looks like the figure of rejection this year could be up to nearly 200,000 applicants.

It's always existant, unis always have a few placed reserved for clearing I think. But clearing this year is gonna go up fast, people will have to decide once they get rejected whether they really want to take the chance with clearing or just get a job before anyone else thinks about it.

And even then, alot of employers arent taking on! It's a read rock and hard place situation for anyone applying.

I think its an awful idea. Especially to release it in this economic climate... In Scotland I dont think there is any difference except we pay it in our tax which is rising...

and so it should, dramatically. Too much resources are allocated to Scotland, way more per person than England.

Silly. Especially now when the value of a degree is decreasing each year.

Decreasing because there are too many, too many useless degrees (media, photography etc) and too many people going to university.

The solution to this is to privatise the good universities whilst closing the slacking ones altogether. In the place of university places you move towards apprenticeships and stop giving many youngsters false hope they that are going to get a job through going to university, because it is simply not true and merely degrades those who genuinely should be going to university. I heard that this country produces more photography students per year than is needed for jobs in the whole of Europe.
