May I ask, what spell do/did you use at mage arena? And how much runes did you use? At the moment i am trying to get a high enough level to do mage arena (I'm level 59 magic at the moment). Is it hard?

I found it very easy (it really helps to have the protect from magic prayer) I personally used fireblast, I took 200 deaths runes and came out with about 110 left. Just make sure to take enough runes and prayer potions, then maybe a few food incase anything goes wrong.

You can't take any 'normal' weapons, no mystic robes, splitbark armour or normal armour. While doing the actual mage arena you can't be PKed, but when you're practicing the spells you can. I suggest taking a knife incase anything goes wrong, that way you can cut the spider webs to get to safety. I wore - Zamorak robe (top and bottom) a canafis hat, gloves, boots and amulate of magic. (They're the best clothes you can wear to get magic bonuses)

Does 'normal weapons' include a staff? Are you aloud to take element staffs?

You're allowed to take any kind of staff(s) in. There's quite a good guide on things you can and can't do in the mage arena here
