Your family interacting with your friends/partner?

Recently this has been a hot topic in my house for several mundane reasons. I've been thinking more and more about it recently, and in my house it's the 'elephant in the room'.

My brother has a 'long term' girlfriend (just over a year, longterm in my mind!) which has caused many a' issue in our household. I'll explain soon.

What are your parents/siblings feelings on your partner?
Do they treat them differently, like your mum pretending to be a stepford wife, your dad pretending you're the devil incarnate?
Do your family get along with your partner?

Do your family get on with your friends?
Are you allowed people over?


In our house it's pretty much a two tiered system, I'm allowed 'friends' over, as long as they're not male. Every time I have one of my female friends over, it's all fine but my dad lives in hope that they're a girlfriend, because he has issue with my 'choices' (as he puts it). Effectively I'm allowed girls over because that's normal, but I'm not allowed guys over unless my dad has essentially vetted them beforehand. I'm not allowed any 'gay acting' people over and he feels that I shouldn't date anyone old or that is camp.

He still has many issues with my sexuality but only recently has he said I'm allowed guys over, as long as he has a say. In effect that means I still won't have anyone over because I disagree with him having a choice in my relationships, but girls are fine!

The only reason things have changed are because my brother always has his girlfriend over and in the past brought home whomever he chose and my dad was absolutely fine with it. It's only changed because my stepmum had a fit over the fact he can 'disrespect our house with any girl but he (me) can't'.

I totally disagree with my dad's feelings on my sexuality, when we have arguements I often just threaten to bring home a sugar daddy because that's my dad's biggest fear, it sounds terrible but when i'm angry i say anything to manipulate/win an arguement.

So how is it in your household?

My parents like me to have friends over, but I prefer not to because we have nothing to do. If I do have someone round we normally just sit on the computer messing around or playing wii. Although I'll be more inclined to have people over when I have my PS3.

I don't have a girlfriend at the moment, but my mum is really immature about that kind of thing and has put me off until I'm older because whenever I mention a girl she's like "ooo" and I'm like -.- we're just friends.

I got to an all boys school so most of my friends are guys anyway, my mum doesn't care, she thinks my friends are "nice". So yeah. As long as they're not yobs.

my mum laughs at my choices (don't blame her) and my brothers make them feel uncomfortable with their sly little comments. i've only brought 2 home and they both turned out bad so now whenever i say i like someone my brothers interrogate the **** out of them and are still never happy and my mum tells me to just wait till i grow up and to stop messing around >.> they already don't like my current bf because he's older than both my brothers (& most my cousins) and because ONE time i raged about him so now my mum thinks he's a jerk.

oh my friends are fine though. "why can't you be more like them?"

my mum and dad love my boyfriend more than they love me LOL. like when he leaves my dads like 'i miss michael...' ugh.

And buttons I know what you mean. My big sister (she's married with her own house etc) is like your mum, but with my friends. She'll interrogate them to find out they're not 'the bad sort' and when I'm going out she'll be like "and what's xxxx like?" "do they take drugs?"

She's only twenty-seven!

Im good friends with my girlfriend family and my family are good friends with my girlfriend.

when my friends (rarely) come round it's like christmas for my mam. she's quite immature and i rarely let her see them so she tries to show me up and everything.


and all my family get on with my girlfriend like she's part of it, which is a very helpful thing in a relationship.

My mum does that. Although I don't have a girlfriend. But whenever I have a friend over my mum will act really weird and try and be "cool" and tbh, although she's not the coolest mum in the world, I'd rather she'd act normal and then come across as boring than try and act cool and come across weird. Lol.

They like her but think she attension seeks at times. They think shes obsessed with me n all i want is a one night stand apparently.

Sometimes, Although her family don't like me because of a pub fight before we even knew each other i was involved in.

Yep, parents don't really mind, They start getting annoyed when i have about 4 other people over they call it a club house :/

I generally don't have friends round because my mum is so temperamental ahaha, never really know what mood she's gonna be in. Also it feels kinda rude if I disrespect her by making loads of noise, it's her house too.

and yeah, don't have a boyfriend but probably wouldn't introduce him to my mum anyway, she's so cringe aha.

all my friends i have are friends my family have known for years and they are treated pretty much like brothers/sons in my family. My house is pretty much a second home for most of my mates.

I don't have a boyfriend so that's one big fat no there.
My mother basically hates my best friend but I don't really care. I tend to avoid parental interaction whenever I'm with peers. But y'know.

My parents and especially my brother judge absolutely everyone I talk to. My brother constantly makes remarks about peers and others my age and doesn't stop just because they're my friends.

Plus I don't want my parents or family getting the wrong idea about, uhh, the relationships I have with other people :P

My mother never gave 2 flying ***** who I had in the house just as long as we were having fun. If she wants to have guys over, I can have girls over too.. my house was always the drinking spot for high-school events too!
