Time is probably why and unfortunately I don't think it was worked on very hard, despite calv wanting to get a move on with it. :(
I must ask, does it really matter?
Is it such a big deal that because of it, you wont use it?
Think that as a reply to why it doesn't matter.
I dont mind if the calendar is the same as long as the quests are not :D

i don't think it's a problem really, it's a nice idea and it has been well executed. who cares if it's the same from last year, if yr gonna enter/play yr gonna do it regardless of how it looks.
I highly doubt anybody cares. It's the prizes people are wanting.. :P:P
Agreed with all the replies here, it's just a graphic at the end of the day and I don't think it matters too much that it's the same as last year. I have the same sort of chocolate advent calendar that I had last year, but I will still enjoy it just as much! :D There are fresh people who may not have seen it, and it really is the taking part that's important- and it's great that the competition is being run again! :D
The design is the same but the questions and prizes are different and that's the most important!
