I am probably going to be shot down for this but anyway..
I think Administrators and Super MOD's should have different colours.
They are completely different roles - and as a new user I would see one administrator is red, and just assume red user names are managing things.
Just my thoughts :)
Hmm in all seriousness, I agree. I think that red is a coolour for power and although super moderators have that, it isn't as much as administrators do. Perhaps super moderators could have brown (hehe no, I'm not doing it to make dave change from green to red to brown) because that is the moderator colour. It just makes more sense as they are the same department, just different ranks.
and then they read their usertitle and all is fine again.

I also agree, on most other forums red is seen as the most important rank on a forum. Maybe have Super MODs as orange?

Super Moderators have quite a powerful role on the forum, they need to stand out just as much as administrators so having them use their VIP colours is out of the question. Although red is an administrator colour, the user title and user bar does a good job of differentiating the two. I'd also like to think our smods are active and thus instantly recognisable even to users new to the forums :P

I agree with James really. It's been the way for as long as I can remember at least that admins/smods have the same colour. Supermoderators do have the power to ban members etc and it's a very important role to the forum. The differences between moderators an supermoderators are rather large and this is shown with the colour- it's a role which requires more responsibility.
I also agree that they need to stand out as people on the forum who are on hand to assist new members/old members and they've got the power to instantly get rid of any posts which are serious rulebreaks and ban members etc.
I would completely say no to allowing them to have vip colours- they need to stand out and I don't think having three people with the same colour as admins is going to hurt, especially when you can tell what their job role is from their usertitle. You could say the same about owner/GM/AGM they are different ranks with different amounts of power, yet they still share the colour- this is just another example. Smods have a panel, they have powers and need to be recognised since their roles are extremely important to the forum.
If it were to change seen as normal Moderators are Maroon and Administratiors are Bright Red, then Super Mods should be halfway between IMO.
But then it's been this way for so long as it's been said, it's nothing really major that needs to change?

I can see where you are coming from, however I don't think it's really worth changing anything since the job titles remain the same and the colours aren't too confusing. It's been fine for years and I think introducing yet another colour would mean too much variety and things would start to get confusing.
Super Moderators are far more than just moderators. Within the department they act as the main point of contact between forum management and moderators, because there's two of us and a lot of forums, moderators and issues that arise each day. As well as investigation, banning and lots and lots of "paper" work to do.Quote:

Indeed. It's all well and good saying "They'll see the red and assume power" (which is bizarre in itself), but they'd understand the red colour will mean something when they bother to read the user title underneath. That's like suggesting someone who has never seen a Swastika or the wars associated will immediately assume it is evil. It's illogical.Quote:

I'm presuming you want to pick out "moderate" as the over arching thing, which yes is true. However they do so much more to warrant the red name as I have highlighted in my two previous posts.

Well I'll start by highlighting that ideally Forum Super Moderators should be the first contact point for a member of the forum with a query, they can do 80% of the things an administrator can do (in terms of what a user would need). By them having a red name it highlights them as important alongside Forum Management as that is what Super Moderators do, they work alongside Forum Management to make the forum run smoothly, afterall if there is a Moderator decision that needs reversing (which is the reason behind about 70% of complaints) then the Super Moderator can do this.
This is why they have the same colour name and will remain with the same colour name.
It's not as important that a member recognizes a moderator. It is important that a member recognizes a Super Moderator. If there are serious forum-related issues, they look for a red name. If there are issues to be brought to management, they look for a bright green name. The color reminds them, as they come across the name in various threads or on the online list, that the specific user is a user with some power who they can access if need be.
Also, in times of crisis, they can be easily picked off the online list. If there is a forum emergency, a Forum Super Moderator can deal with most things an Admin can, and since SMods are required to be visible and admins are not, they are a viable option even if the fix requires an admin. If the problem has to do with the site, members can look for a lime green name. In short, I don't see much of a reason to change it, I do see a reason to keep it.
That said, I think it was a good idea to bring it up, and have it discussed. I just disagree :)
