Usually if you need to make small posts you're in the spam forums. Having the word limit as it is means people can't spam up the other forums as they're usually meant to engage more than the usual teenage "grunt" and one worded answers :P 4 letters isn't really any different to 6 - 6 is pretty lenient as it is :P
Personally i think it should be raised;
i think its only a problem in the games section where your stating numbers with 1-2 digits.
;
If the limit is currently 6, i dont see how a 6 letter word, can create an active discussion.Quote:
A6. Do not post pointlessly ~ ~ Do not post off-topic ~ An off-topic post has no relevance to the topic or any previous post that is relevant, or does little to positively contribute to the discussion.
~ Do not spam/make pointless posts. It is not allowed to post random, meaningless, posts or threads on the forum. Examples of this are (ROFLCOPTER!!!!!!); (BYRDSB +HKK; ) (I am a plane)
~ Do not posts threads which only allow for short, one or two word answers and do not promote active discussion
No it shouldn't because this just incourages pointless posting, you shouldn't post "Great" in the first place unless it's in spam and I think in spam the word count is lowered? however i might be wrong on that one.
I think it's there to encourage people to give longer replies in their posts and to be honest short answers only happen in the Spam forum anyway which I don't think is too much of an issue.
@ The Don, I don't think it is.
It does annoy me but other people will pointless post. A bit of a no win situation.
Why not just remove it altogether in spam?
I don't think it's possible, however I could be wrong. I think 6 is a pretty fair limit, if anything I'd say make it more like 8 or 10 to encourage more reasonable replies.
For forums like spam where it's not needed it's easy to avoid anyway, all you have to do is leave a huge space between words. :P
If anything, I'd rather it raised.
Stupid thread is stupid. Why would you want to make posts that short that contribute nothing to the forum
i don't really see how a person like yourself who has yet to experience MANY things in life
can call me boring....... but anyway, good one so original
i'm just saying all you ever do is post to show that you hate everyone on the forum so i don't really see how you contribute much

You seem to be the one starting this argument, he's entitled to his opinion, you wouldn't like it if someone jumped down your throat when you post telling you basically your not entitled to your opinion.
anyway, on topic, I still think it's a reasonable ammount as it encourages sensible posts.
but hes being a complete hypocrite in doing so.......

This lover's tiff has gotten the thread somewhat off track but I do agree that in Spam perhaps the minimum ought to be lowered, the rest of the forum I don't think it's a problem though as really I can't think of many times when you could post even under 20 characters and it'd be a non-pointless post. That's not to say the minimum needs to be raised outside of Spam, as people who want to make entirely pointless posts will do so no matter how many words and letters they need so it'd be a somewhat pointless change
I don't think it needs to rasied. We have now become a lot more lenient with one word answers but of course any one word answer threads that have no real point get moved to spam anyway so it isn't an issue.
I shall do some digging and see if it's actually possible to change the spam count although I'm not entirely sure how I feel on the idea.
By the looks of the way vBulletin is set up the "Minimum Characters Per Post" is set for all forums as it is in the main options in regards of User Posting instead of an individual option for each forum. So it isn't possible to change it for just the spam forum only using what we have have.
