How do you handle negative feedback?

Whether you're in Employment or Education, you leave yourself open to negative feedback and suppose constructive criticism, do you happened it well, take it on the chin and work to improve? Or do you take it as an attack on you, and get disheartened?

I've never been very good with authority figures, especially when I feel I haven't done anything wrong, but supposedly by unwritten rules it's taboo to defend yourselves. It got to the point when I was in high school, I was very close to be expelled.

More recently I've got a lot better with taking negative feedback, especially in the work environment because unless you want to be unemployed you have to take the negatives with the positives.

What about you?

If it's negative but also constructive I can take it, because then I'll know what to improve on and prove the person who criticized me wrong, but if it's just negative I don't see why I should take it. There's no point in putting someone down if they're doing something wrong if you don't plan to tell them how to improve. But I usually would ask the person to tell me how I should be doing it or show me if they're not giving any constructive criticism.

This site taught me pretty much how to give it and receive it from the graphics section, so since joining I take constructive criticism as good feedback, and it puts trust into the person who gave it to me because I know they're honest.

Negative feedback is often there for you to act upon, and resurrect yourself, and hope you dont make the same mistake again.

I'm genuinly good at taking negative feedback, any feedback good or bad is an improvement anyway.

If someone is rude about it, I react negatively. If they are polite and simply point out a mistake and perhaps suggest ways I could improve on myself, I will smile and say "Indeed, my friend. Indeed."

Even if it's negative, at least they're honest and not lying about how **** you are at whatever you're doing, the best approach is the blunt approach in my eyes.

If its negative for being negative, I'll defend what theyre being negative about by saying how.
If they post constructively aswell, I will see what they are saying and if I agree I will accept it however if they just seem to be picking at something at random I will just defend it again. I don't see why criticism has to be polite though.

If I am prepared to give it out then I have to be prepared to be able to take it. Naturally I will defend myself as there can often be reasons why I do something like this rather than like that or whatever. It's important to debate and discuss things as how else can they be improved? So yes I do listen to feedback as even in the most negative feedback (in other words, not constructive) that you get there are some helpful hints.

Despite that, I also think it's important for yourself to self-reflect on things rather than other people telling you how it should be done. If you're comfortable with a method of drawing that someone else doesn't like, for example, why should you change it? It's all about give and take and finding the right balance imo.

Negative constructive feedback is fine as long as it is balanced with positive feedback as well. It can be very demoralising when one works very hard, produces good results and it is only the mistakes that are picked up and dealt with.

Negative feedback does tend to dishearten you however if you are given points to improve or have the oppourtunity to ask for a way to improve then its far better. its finding that balance between constructive criticism and just plain negativity against you.

In school I ignored all negative feedback, whether it be towards me or my work but when I got to college I realized that was the wrong thing to do. Now I listen to and improve on negative feedback and it's worked pretty well so far. I still ignore the jackasses who just do it for fun though.

If constructive, and I know that I can improve I can take it, but if they're just giving me negative feedback for the heck of it well I don't like it and tend to argue.

If I get negative feedback on an assignment (be it an essay or something creative), I try to take it on board and use it to help improve my piece of work. Obviously it can sometimes be difficult not to let it get to me, especially if I feel as though I tried my best.

i consider myself very honest, and so when i know i've done something wrong/badly i'm pretty honest with myself about that so if i consider the negative criticism correct, then i take it fine. when i don't agree, and i have valid points on disagreeing i will just disregard it. it also depends on who's giving the criticism. especially with my lecturers at uni because some of them are simply awful at their jobs, and their criticism is often ignored ha!

Don't you dare ever say I'm wrong because I'm always right and what ever you say to contradict me is wrong, and you're a ****.

That about sums it up, except when I'm feeling in a rational mood. Generally I'm quite good at seeing both sides of an argument but find it difficult to deal well with criticism, unless its for like an essay or something.

it spurs me on to do better i think because in my year 10 mocks i did badly and my teacher slated me and since then i have never ever had one B in anything i'm straight A*-A and i'm not in year 12. So yeah i handle it well not that i get it too much now. However i do always try my hardest so if i did do badly you know it was the best you could have done.

I do not get negative feedback and therefore cannot answer as to how I might handle such a situation

I'm in school now and when i'm getting negative feedback from a teacher I normally take it unless I know i;m not wrong then I answer back and then we start to argue then I normally get sent out. That's only with one teacher my science teacher. I normally just take it and just not listen to them for the rest of the lesson.

Agree with this. Negative without positive doesn't really help!

if it's constructive I'll be happy for people to tell me but if you tell me a load of stupid criticisms that I can't even really help (like my handwriting is bad) then I may flip.

Hmm. for me, if it improves me, I'm gonna take the negative feedback and try to change for better. If it's just a worthless feedback, then just ignore it and move on with your life

To be honest if a person decides to give me negative feedback in a unpositive way such as they start shouting I normally ignore then and stare them right in the face with a blank expression and then after they finish act like nothing happen and continue to do things my way.

I take negative feedback and I try improve what I did wrong, it doesn't hinder me. :).

If it's constructive then I'll take it on board. If it offers nothing to me then I'll shrug it off or even laugh.

If it's straight up screaming at me I tell the to fluff off and move on. if they politely tell me I've done something wrong then ill thank them and improve

If it's constructive and with reasons then I see it as a good think, almost giving you an answer telling you *** to improve it. But if it's a load of crap like 'dats crap so rubbish' then that really annoys me.
