Well that makes sense. Diana married the heir to the throne so I guess that's why she was a princess and Camilla was divorced so that would make it awkward for her,
If Charlie dies, then Kate will become a princess :)
Only right really. Other people who have married into the family didn't get the princess title either.
Actually, she is technically a Princess, her full title being Her Royal Highness The Princess William Arthur Philip Louis, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus, MA.
She cannot however bear the title "Princess Catherine" as she wasn't born a Princess.
How do you work that out? 'Your Royal Highness' is afforded to quite a few of the royals. She will be a princess when William is direct heir to the throne and will then be called Princess Catherine. Camilla isn't as she was divorced and there is no precedent for a divorced woman being called a princess.
As wife to Prince William, she is Princess William as she takes on his title, as in any marriage. Technically Camilla is Princess Charles blah blah blah blah. Obviously, Camilla isn't Princess of Wales for certain reasons, however Kate can't be known under the "Princess" title until William is the direct heir to the throne, but she is in terms of the Royal family itself, a princess.
If you are married, you take on your husbands title? For instance if someone married John Smith they would become Mrs John Smith. Kate takes Princess William, as William is a Prince, it's his title however, not hers - if it was to be her own she would have had to be born into the Royals or if William was first in line.

As well as a duchess, Miss Middleton is also technically Princess William of Wales.
According to protocol, she is not officially Princess Catherine as she was not born a princess in her own right.
Instead she adopts her husband's first name, in the same way as Princess Michael of Kent, who married the Queen's cousin Prince Michael of Kent.
I was wondering that, because although he is the Duke of Cambridge he is still son of the Prince of Wales. Charles is also a Duke so I imagine William will also keep the family "name" of Wales, however not to be used until his father dies and he, I would imagine becomes Prince of Wales.
The reason for this is because King is a superior title to Queen, so to have a King with a reigning Queen would have consitutional problems - hence why Phillip is Prince Phillip with Queen Elizabeth II, but when Charles succeeds it will be King Charles III & Queen Camilla. The same counts for titles also, Emperor being the most superior title (widely accepted) just as King is superior to Archduke.
What a great event may I add, it shows our country and its history off at best with billions from across the former Empire and the world in general watching, I wish the royal couple well. :)
That's another of her titles, they seem to have aload and their official title is the most important, at the moment for William it's Duke of Cambridge, however when Charles dies if William takes the Prince of Wales title, the Duke title will become subsidary, I guess.
I imagine the media hype will generally call her Princess Catherine, when her official title is currently Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, but she's also a princess so this thread is incorrect.
He still has the prince william. His new title is "Prince William, Duke of Cambridge". Or if you want to be formal "His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, Baron Carrickfergus, Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Master of Arts"
I wonder if the media will still call her Kate Middleton?
When abbie. sees that this guy is the baron of carrickfergus she's going to go off her top
the spar wont stand for that
Duke/duchess is higher ranking than prince/princess anyway. Princess is just more romantic and fairytale sounding.
Camilla is a Princess actually, however she does not use that title to avoid getting confused with Diana. Her full title isShe is a princess (Catherine )as many have said before due to her taking his name aswell. So congrats to them!Quote:
Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales and Countess of Chester, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland

It was an amazing day, not just watching the Royal Couple, but for the way the British greeted the world with open arms down on the Mall and in other areas of the country. It was great seeing the British doing what they do best :)
I never watched the wedding as I was either sleeping or in class and I don't know anything about the Royal family, really, but I hear it was quite graceful from the people who did see it.
HOW COULD YOU SLEEP THROUGH A WEDDING?
the queen didn't make her own husband a prince for a good 10 years after they got married. haha.
