Miami

Hey,

Me and a couple of friends are planning on going to Miami next March/April for Wrestlemania 28. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the actual place. I've heard stories about the latino gangs but I'm pretty sure they're very rare occassions considering it's a tourist place.

Simple things like is there a lot of things to do? Bear in mind we'll all be 20 so not old enough to drink but still want to have fun. How much will an average meal out cost? How much does the average taxi cost and how are the transport links within the city? Is there anything within like an hour/2 hours that's worth visiting for the day? We'll only be going for a week and will be occupied for about 3/4 days of them so we need to take as much in as possible in the couple of days we have left.

Main thing is how expensive it is. Is it very over the top or is it what you'd expect to pay in a big city? I mean, the pound is strong against the dollar at the moment so that makes things cheaper for us. Also, it'll be my first time going to USA so is there anything we really need to know?

I really wouldn't recommend Miami... a lot of bad things happen there, and it's not rare....

Miami is amazing. I loved it when I went a couple of years ago, actually going back this August! I'll do my best to answer your questions ;D

There's sort of two parts of miami, the part you see on CSI:Miami which isn't really common unless you stay in the dodgy part, and the pretty nice part with beaches etc. I didn't see much violence there at all where we stayed (right on the sea-front), and we were there fr just under a week.

Attraction-wise, there's not MUCH to do apart from the beaches. South beach is just an absolute must-see, just to be able to say 'OMG IVE BEEN TO SOUTH BEACH' if nothing else. Me and my family also did the classic tourist-y stuff which you miiight not be interested in but...

Theres also a monkey and parrot garden which we went to, but I forgot what they're called :s
Shopping at fashion outlet stores - they have all sorts of brands and are proper dirt cheap sometimes! Got brand new uggs for like £50.

There's also classic things to do, cinemas and the like, and films come out in america way before they hit the UK so it's usually a good chance to brag about how good a movie is.

Price-wise, I've always been surprised at how cheap things are in America. Usually (but don't take my word for this) things are the same price in dollars and pounds, for example, iPods might be £150 here and $150 there at the same time, but with the exchange rate, it makes it sooo cheap. Food follows the same sort of patterns, you can usually get a good meal for around $6, without drinks, depending on which sort of place you go to, obviously. Unless you eat steak or shellfish, average meal price is $6-15 (from my experience anyway - also inflation might have increased it). Oh my prices are sort of going from Orlando prices seeing as I can't remember MUCH of specifics in miami ;)

spent alot of time in orlando and i'm sure this will apply to miama. MAKE SURE YOUR TAXI IS REAL there are lots of fakes and i've been in them before, they're not normally dangerous, however they take you the LONG way round and then you end up paying more than you should. Just check and always go with a firm you know is real the fakes are convincing!

A meal out to a restaurant will proberly cost you maybe $15 each unless you order alot

I've been to Miami and it's pretty decent there's not much to do there if you're not old enough to drink as it's pretty much a party place, as i'm not able to drink either. There's the beaches which are UNREAL, south beach is a nice place which I would recommend you go.
There's love/hate tattoos if you're into that sorta thing (if not, it's where they filmed miami ink).
Soundscape cinema (which i'm not sure if it's there still but it may be) which is an outdoor cinema with films showing from the past so like ghostbusters, bttf, jaws etc.
If I were you i'd go to orlando and do the theme parks and then you can get this attraction for like £110 where you spend 2 days in miami and the everglades this includes hotels and transfers etc.

We will definately be going to Miami as that's where the 4 day event is held however if there's any like day trips to Orlando then we may consider that as well or places around Miami if there's not much to do. I've been told South Beach is a great place but obviously not going to keep us occupied forever haha. As long as it's affordable then I'm not too fussed. You expect to pay a bit more in places like Miami so it's alright.

Do you know anything more about the transport throughout the city? Like is there a metro, trains, buses and are they easy? We'll probably be doing a fair bit of travelling considering we're going to 4 seperate events at 4 seperate locations throughout Miami and taxi's are expensive anyway so that'll mount up.

I'd definitely recommend Orlando, it's even more awesome there - although theme parks are super expensive unless you book online, then they're still pretty extortionate. We don't really do a lot of public transportation in Florida, but after a quick google search I found this which seems to give the information on buses/trains.

Public transport from Miami to Orlando will be difficult as in a car, on the toll roads, the drive takes 3 and a half hours so if you're gonna go to orlando, i suggest you stay a night or two there :)

That's what me and three other mates are looking to do. We're after a platinum package (ringside) or a silver package (rows) for WM28!

It's gonna cost an absolute bomb though but it's happening, it's happening. Orlando will probably be out of the picture unless we extend the week by 2 or 3 days. Still, adding to the cost of an already stupidly expensive week. I mean, WM28 is gonna cost about £6-700 and then flights at about £450 and extra accomodation at about £100. You can see why I'm trying to skimp of some things a little bit haha.

I'm exactly the same as you! My mates are a bit concerned about the price and all but I'm gonna' do my best to get the money and go! To see The Rock in match against Cena (in what some people may say it's a dream match) and Undertaker's last match - possibly... anyway I'm going off topic, this can be discussed here.

I want to go to Axxess, HOF, WM28 (obv), WWE Mad Morning (or something) and Monday Night Raw which is all included in the package. Packages are normally released around July time. Single tickets come out in November. If I can't scramble £700+ before July then I may have to wait until November and then pay for everything separate.

Flights atm are £450.00 but these are almost certain to go up IMO once tickets get released because there will be a high demand on the flights out from the UK to MIAMI.

But I'm so excited about the fact of even going. If it becomes a reality then it will, without question, be the best moment of my life!

Exactly mate, we're going to to make the week unforgettable. Atmosphere will be electric.

We're doing the package and it'll probably be released 11th July. We're doing the 4 day package aswell cos if you gotta buy about 4/5 different tickets and there will be no guarentee at all.

If you do go to orlando i'd stay at least a night there because it about a 3 hour drive up there (like -punchline said) To get into theme parks there, its about $35 each ish (on day) book online is cheaper. If you want to go to any disney parks while there i'd look in super stores (Walmart for example) because they do good deals.

Im going to be travelling upto Orlando from Miami in November, so if you want any info about Orland, im the man to speak to. Did i mention i've been to Orlando 19 times, so I do know alot about it.
