It's a good idea, not original but it doesn't have to be.
Needs a lot of work though, need a key demographic in mind and more more user friendly UI.
I like it, very viral sort of site and how you secured votingwars.com is a stroke of luck too, good luck! The design is a bit bamboozling if I had to leave you with something to look at.
I think the idea is good and I did some voting yesterday :P. However, the layout could be better in my opinion.

I do like it but I can't see many people signing up just to create a poll, maybe let anyone do it and moderate it?

I agree that you shouldn't need to register to create one, just moderate it, so it's good to see you took that on board :D!
