There's quite a few different styles of them. I've just been looking on the website and I've got an idea of which ones you're talking about, they're awful.

I have a couple of pairs of toms, i love mine they're comfy, they're not the best shoe but they're the comfiest shoes i've ever owned.
Nice for girls, no for boys
They look ******* stupid, it amazes me that people will happily pay £40 for a pair when 1) they look like they'll get ****** up as soon as you leave the house and 2) look like they cost about 50p to make. it's a trend that for some reason won't go away, like cuffed chinos and pikeys wearing vans
