It seems to me that groups can now get over 5000 members (Unision's group with now 5041 members!)
I believe that the limit was disabled for the dragon competition currently happening. If not then it must be new!
Roxy has had more than 5000 people in her group for ages! :P

I remember the 500 member limit they set cos that had a green 500 on group settings. I think it's better to have it unlimited because it's such a pain when you are full and don't know who to delete.

Theres a option to have different thingy where you can have unlimited group members...
There should be an option to delete all members in your group.
i've been waiting for this for ages even though it doesn't benefit me, just the people who visit my rooms but it's really good, i just hope it's not limited to 10k or something
it used to be 500 all the time. Then like good few months ago it changed when the new group setting came out
