Asperger's Syndrome

Okay, I didn't really want people to know because I thought yous might have a go at me for one reason or another but the time has come. I can no longer hide it. Some of you might know I have it and some do not. I was diagnosed after I left school. I have made it as short as possible so all of the other information is in the link.

I have Asperger's Syndrome which is a form of autism.

• People with Asperger's take jokes seriously
• Some people with Asperger's act or feel younger or older than their chronological age.
• Some have difficulty knowing when to start or end a conversation and choosing topics to talk about
• We have difficulty understanding gestures, facial expressions or tone of voice
• Have trouble understanding or interpreting other peoples thoughts, feelings or actions
• Asperger syndrome is mostly a 'hidden disability'. This means that you can't tell that someone
has the condition from their outward appearance.

People with the condition have difficulties in three main areas. They are:
•social communication
•social interaction
•social imagination.

The exact cause of Asperger syndrome is still being investigated. However, research suggests that a combination of factors -
genetic and environmental - may account for changes in brain development.

Asperger syndrome is not caused by a person's upbringing, their social circumstances and is not the fault of the individual with the condition. This link will provide you with further information about Asperger's.

one of my closest mates has this, but you wouldnt be able to tell except he doesn't understand sarcasm to much but in terms of social skills he can have a conversation with anyone and keep it up.

I have to look after an autistic child all day everyday and henceforth I have no tolerance or paitence online. soz about that.

The key when joining a new forum is to lurk before posting. you're just making it worse for yourself sometimes. post threads if you like, nobody actually gives a monkies. some of them are actually stimulating a bit of conversation which can never be bad, just don't make threads/posts that are seemingly deliberate attempts to cause conflict/attention seek. some people are a bit mean but there is an ignore feature on the forum so it's easier to ignore them than you might think.

i never use that feature though. it's quite nonsensical cause if u ignored that person in 1 thread, the whole thread seems to be pointless/missing something. but it's a nice attempt if you're that desperate.

A friend at high school had Asperger Syndrome. You could tell he struggled in social situations (took some jokes way too far) but he was an absolute genius at maths. He knew all the winners of the F1 champions, the car they won in, and the driver... and the World Cup winners, score and host country. I remember having the Wikipedia page up whilst writing Science Coursework testing him. :P

To be honest I don't give a rats arse if someone has something wrong with them. If they're gonna be annoying as hell on here then I'm not gonna pretend to be all nice because of it

like fair enough if you've got something, i would say 'wrong' but autism / aspergers shouldn't be seen as having something 'wrong' with you, but it seems that you're using it as an excuse because people don't like you. like stephen said, if you're going to cause arguments i'm not going to like you just because you have a condition.

I agree it is a bit pointless but that doesnt mean u can simply -rep me because of that, Mathew! It's not like all of your posts in habbox feedback are not pointless ffs

yeah i'm the same. whilst it is technically an excuse to act in an 'annoying' manner because aspergers makes you that way, it doesn't mean people have to be tolerant about it or put up with it. it's like this guy i know who had a 'personality' disorder which he used as an excuse to be a complete ******* to everyone in class but as far as i've seen you haven't used it as an excuse in any way. in saying that, it doesn't mean anyone has to be bully you for having it but i think most people have a go at you because of how you act, not because you have it if that makes sense. if you annoy someone regardless of whether you have a reason to or not, people aren't gonna be happy about it.

anyway my mums best friends son has aspergers but his was more obvious as he couldn't/didn't want to interact with anyone else other than a few people but even then it wasn't much of an interaction. there wasn't really any feelings towards another person or being able to read the atmosphere so it was kinda hard for his mum to deal with. he punched my mums car after losing a video game with my brother and didn't apologize or realize what he'd done. i read that asperger sufferers find it difficult to empathise with others but you've shown that you can so you're not all that bad ;-)

One of my friends has it and sometimes we have to be careful what we say incase he takes things we say too seriously. Don't worry I understand. :)

this post sums up my opinion really, i'm fairly sympathetic towards difficulties you may or may not have. but saying that if you're going to be annoying, cause arguments and post intending to piss other people off i'm going to say something about it because it's not really fair on everyone else.

i feel for people who have problems as i can't imagine it being easy, but that's how far it goes. if i'm annoyed by something then i'll react based upon that because otherwise i'd think the person with the disorder is using it to their advantage for people to treat them differently (whilst they get away with whatever). i already knew people who did that in high school (had autism) and i didn't treat them any differently. so hell, i ain't treating anyone on here any differently compared to other users.

This is just the point. I posted ALOT of threads to annoy the haters because all i've gotten from this forum since I came back was hatred, mostly for nothing at first. The content in the threads meant nothing, it was only the amount that I wanted to annoy yous with but I havent created a single thread today, I don't think. So yous can't all say that now. And I don't post to cause arguments, I post to A) Share my view or B) Defend myself. I'm only on this forum to post like everyone else does, if it annoys you then VM me telling me what your problem is with me. Otherwise I won't know. So, sorry if I annoy you but if people want to target me, then it's just what your going to get from me. I give what I get. I have never used aspergers as an excuse for anything and never will. In real life, I have encouraged people to treat me normally. But if your gunna just be nasty and mean and not tell me what i've done, then you can't expect me do anything about it, other then defend myself.

you keep saying all you get is hate and people targeting you but you mention people when they aren't even mentioned in the thread and have a go at people for no reason.

Annoying you and causing an argument is two different things. Even I know that. I posted them to ANNOY yous. Not cause arguments. I also haven't created any threads today.

I am not using aspergers as an excuse. Accept my apology and move on please.

......... posting to outright annoy someone is posting to cause an argument because you know yr going to "annoy" someone and hence they will respond in a negative light.

in regards to aspergers/autism as an excuse, kinda hate the way the term is being thrown about loosely in here and i ******* venomously hate the idea of anyone using it as an excuse to annoy people. i look after an autistic child with aspergers tendencies every single day, dunno if you know how soul destroying it is but take my word for it. it's vile, it's annoying. and sadly because i spend all day having to placate a child (who is 10 and not letting autism rule her life and probably at 20 you will understand more about controlling yr condition) i have NO time to deal with the illness anywhere else because the entire subject bores me rigid.

**** happens to people, you move on, you don't bring it up everytime you think someone dislikes you for that. i find you boring, that's not yr autism, it's yr personality. and if you don't like me because i'm "rude" i couldn't care less. but please do not think people are targeting you because you have aspergers because it's ******* disrespectful to anyone's intelligence.
