Probably easier to move an entire thread that has been derailed than a large selection of posts from it. If it were me I would have moved all of the biscuit comments to their own new thread in spam and kept the other thread there but hey **.
bit annoyed in all honesty :( i rarely post outside of spam and the time i try make a topic of discussion, gets moved to spam :'(
The best thing is, the posts about biscuits actually sparked up more discussion between users unlike other threads where people just post what they've eaten or any other crap.
I hate when a thread gets moved to spam, when its a perfectly fine topic, just because of a few posts...

I don't think it was right for the users to continue their discussion which was quite clearly drawn away from the original topic. Development of discussion is okay but in this case the thread turned from something about food people felt they couldn't live without to a discussion purely on what type of biscuits people like... Feel sorry for marvin tbh as the thread was at least better than the corker "how long have you left your window open"

Discussion isn't approved of by some members on this forum, they accuse you of 'hijacking' or 'ruining' the thread when you turn it into a discussion - seemingly one-sentence comments with little thought or idea are what people prefer (apparently).
I prefer in-depth discussion myself, but I like a mix - so I don't agree either with one word reply threads being moved to spam, even if they're not my cup of tea. Besides in my view the forum needs all the extra posts it can get, of whatever quality.
I think threads should be allowed to evolve so not just turning a thread for the sake of it but there needs to be a link. If someone said "I'd take biscuits on a desert island" and then someone sparked off a discussion about their favourite biscuits, I don't really see the problem with that. It's why spam threads are normally the best ones because they've been allowed to evolve naturally rather than stuck to a rigid straitjacket.

I thought it had been pretty much completely agreed and accepted by now that progression of discussion to something other than that which the topic title states is fine as long as it's not just a random leap from a completely unrelated spam post. It makes no sense whatsoever to not allow this, as it would essentially mean that in most of these threads you're allowed to give a singular answer to a question and then never return, which is definitely not discussion.
How often does anyone have a good, lengthy conversation which only concerns a single topic and never deviates in any way from its origins?
Personally I disagree with moving a complete thread like that into spam when there is a perfectly relevant and valid discussion taking place with plenty of good posts. (which the forum needs right now)
As others have said, its perfectly normal for discussion to move around a bit during a thread and you cant expect everyone to post to the exact same template and answering the question directly, else it becomes more like a survey rather than a forum thread. :P
Forums are places for discussion, and I don't think it does any harm to deviate slightly from topic, providing something has previously been on topic and mentioned (e.g the biscuits). Its been brought up in the thread, and I dont think it does any harm to go deeper in to discussion and for someone to be interested in what type of biscuits someone prefers. It is not hard for the thread to get back on track, and for the sake of a few posts inbetween I dont think its worth losing a perfectly valid thread to the spam forum.
Had someone come along and said "I like cars" then fair enough that would be a completely different topic. I think if you are too harsh in making people stick rigidly to topic then there is no fun in it, and you cant really have a decent discussion at all. That's my personal opinion but we will see what the forum manager says. :P @brandon;
I know I was the one who moved it and I realise now it was a bad move. I put my hands up, don't shoot me. :( It does classify as a discussion and the 5-6 posts within it should have been moved into their own thread. Unfortunately, this idea didn't cross me and again, I made a bad move. Everyone makes bad moves right?

The "Move Thread to Spam" button seems to be stuck down, like one of the moderators fell asleep at the Moderator Console and spilled their Coca Cola into the buttons. If a thread starts off as a discussion, never move it. Only move threads which lack discussion (or sensible posts) from the very beginning. It makes the Spam forum crowded and the useful forums (Discuss Anything, Spam's ugly cousin in the attic) go hungry and empty.
