Too many updates for Rare Values for them to put on a status, they can't really do much about Graphics since near enough all graphics are made for them, they can't publicly say who made it. I think Social Media is better when something on Habbox is going wrong, being updates, like if you can't get onto the forum etc. they can just look on the site. Would prefer things like that on Twitter though Andi so not shooting down your idea lol.
Lol I don't want every single value but I mean like latest rates added n stuff :) and social media is the big thing now :) I do advertising and the Facebook page needs to be more active because new users may use Facebook more than the forum and would probably see the updates on Facebook rather than having to look through the forum to find the things :)
I concur, really they should implement postings to twitter/Facebook automatically. Back in the days of Joomla i should have added something like this. So any new article/news report posted would get posted automatically to twitter and Facebook. The rare values maybe a little harder but it would be very possible to do. Maybe something they can consider throwing into V7.
It is yet another way to reach your audience, simple and nice feature that would require a little setup work but then it would run on auto pilot until someone broke it.
Ideas for automatic status updates:
- News/Reviews etc
- Latest Rare Updates (you don't need to put the values just a message stating which values have been updated or to check out the RV because values have been updated)
- Events (if not done then do it automatically - tie it in with the timetable feature)
- Jobs
- New Rares
- Lottery - Draw/Purchase
News actually has it's own Twitter account which I was going to bring back. If it could be automated that would be great, I've asked for this in the past but was told that it's 'too difficult' to code. That's why I was going to do it by hand every article.
All other ideas @Yonder; has I definitely agree with - although maybe not rare values as there are a LOT of them. Maybe just new furni added?
I'm currently testing a "vBulletin to Twitter" plugin that will enable us for certain threads in specific forums to be tweeted to the Habbox twitter account. Not sure about Facebook but twitter can be done with ease.
In this plugin you can make it so only threads from one specific forum gets tweeted out - I think it would get a bit too much if we do say every thread that get's posted in "Habbox Announcements" but if we wanted Job Openings as that is quite important then maybe we should make a sub-forum inside Habbox Announcements?
What do people think about that.
Some of those seem useful for sure.
On twitter you can post to Facebook so anything that gets posted to twitter will get posted to Facebook.

Well true but that depends on who is coding and also what system is being used. I have no idea what the Habbox system looks like these days and i know many people disliked Joomla but it is a powerful CMS and i still use it on various websites every day and something like that is as simple as enabling it and instantly articles will be posted as status/tweets. But of course it is possible to code it from scratch just more work. That was the point of a stable and powerful CMS.
Though it will take a lot of work these things should be considered as they will be short term pain, long time gain. Managers will be able to concentrate on staff and there quality of work rather than doing tedious tasks of posting the latest articles on the twitter, automation!
Downfall for doing it manually - what if you don't make it online, sick, vacation who knows. Stuff happens, but you wont need to worry the automation will post them automatically when one of your staff members posts a new article.
This will also keep people in the know, spreading Habbox's reach so you can keep in contact with frequent users of Twitter/Facebook and not the forum/site. Maybe even turn them into daily visitors of the site/forum.
Brilliant, I forgot about that! Thanks
Moved away from Joomla when we switched to V6 which was pretty much a custom built one by David. In V7 we are moving away from that again. I've posted your idea into the developers forum to see what our main coders think of the idea and if it''s possible with the skills they have. Fingers crossed? :P
Custom CMS or another CMS out there? Also if they don't want to go crazy with api etc etc tell them to turn the articles into RSS feeds if the new system doesn't do this already then use third party to post the feed to twitter, example http://twitterfeed.com/. Many others out there.
Yay go my idea haha ;) see Matt I should so be in charge of advertising Habbox
oh another thing to add to that list.
DJs on air, interlink it with the DJ timetable. So 5 mins before a DJ comes on air send out a tweet/status
@xxMATTGxx;
This might not be automatic, but even just important messages such as hiring/firing/resigning of management (not GM, but all managers) are good things to tell people through social media
And things like the Group Badge Design contest, that's a good thing to have
And posting challenges etc
Events that people are going to want to know about for sure, rather than just normal staff coming/going, because you dont need to know that instantly
I don't agree about hiring and firing of staff. Because at times there could be a load of staff announcements within a short period of time and that would just spam the twitter and facebook accounts. That is one thing I don't like about some of the other main .com fansites is that they don't use social media in a way I personally think benefits the users. They hook it up to automated scripts and just leave it at that - Most of the time it's spamming peoples timelines with junk that isn't even related.
I've been dealing with the Habbox twitter/facebook for a while and I rather it be in the middle of personal and automatic. What I mean by personal is me actually typing the tweets out and then even getting involved with other Habbo's and also replying to them if they send us any messages.
Job Openings - This is now automatic. When departments post the job application threads, this will then be sent out to our social media pages automatic and in real time.
Badge Design Contest - I tweeted about that a couple of times actually.
Most major events or news that occurs at Habbox has actually been mentioned on twitter or facebook. I know that because it's me who is the one who is in control of them.
Oh, I dont see posts from the Facebook one much, but I'm always on Facebook at odd times
And I think management changes could be of big interest, such as the most recent of Ryan getting Asst. Comps Manager
And for situations where one department is shuffled around a lot in a short time, maybe release the information as a bigger post all at the end?
I meant management changes as a manual post rather than an automatic one from a sub-forum
I'm currently on my iPhone if you are seeing this message! I cannot participate in spam wars xx
Yeah like that, but not for normal staff as the amount we go through would class as spam for their feeds xD
