I was walking through town today and have seen many children, as young as 3 with their ears peirced, I think that it is really cruel for you to do this to your kids. Much like religion, people are here to make their own choices, not for their parents to make their choices for them. What do you think?
Personally I think it's fine, It's not that painful but if you get it done at a young age you forget about it when you're older
If you don't have it done and want it done you might put it off due to the pain.
I Had mine done at around 2 or 3 I think & Don't wear earrings now only because the hole is wonky cos i was moving around too much :P
I think that you need to respect yourself and your body so, In my house it wouldn't be accepted.
I'm not a fan of it, and personally, I would prefer if my children didn't have their ears pierced at all - so I especially wouldn't force it upon them.
Well my sister just had it done and she's 10..... and even i'm slightly uncomfortable with piercings at that age. :P
Either way, it's entirely up to the parents as it should be - and not the state.

I think young kids with earrings in just look so... basically I imagine they're the type of people I'd avoid when they're older. i dunno ;)
I think that when they're that age they shouldn't really be given the choice to alter their body like that as they may not really understand that they'll have holes/marks there forever. I guess it isn't too bad though, it's not as if they're getting their lip/nose done at that age which I really really would object to xD

I don't think piercings are for young children at all, it's something you do when your older IMO. I don't like seeing young children with studs in their ears, it's something you should want to get for yourself and somehow I don't think that's the case in these circumstances
I don't agree with children getting their ears pierced at a young age. I think this is a decision the child should make when they are old enough to make responsible decisions. Parents shouldn't be putting their children through the pain at a young age.
I didn't know this was so controversial, I remember LOADS of chicks during primary school having their ears done. Hmm

i agree with jen really like i think its okay if the person asks for them and it isnt just the parent making them have it done because it looks cute and again the holes can always close up if they arent happy with the outcome

i dont see how its a problem like in some cultures ear piercing is actually tradition and if someone thinks they'll look prettier with them then they can do it??
Hard topic to debate really. There's little harm and risk if done at a licensed place. I personally wouldn't have seen myself having it done as a child and certainly wouldn't see myself having it done now or in the future. If parents are fine with it, then it should be okay. As long as the parent isn't forcing their child to have it done, which I believe may be against some sort of law (statute/common) as it's a form of mutilation if you've not consented in the same way as forcing a child to being circumcised - but that's a whole darker area :P
Agreed, I believe even India traditionally allows children to have piercings at quite a young age. I don't know much about the fashion but the piece which goes from the nose to the ear as a chain comes to mind. There's no risk or harm. Only problem I see is if the child outright refuses or has some sort of condition - immunity, skin condition etc.Quote:

No it shouldn't happen at a young age, I think it should be allowed at 12-13 years old.

No they shouldn't. I know that it's really easy to get piercings infected in the first few weeks after having them done and small children just can't look after them properly. They'll twiddle the earrings, other children will want to see/touch, and I highly they would sanitise them properly. It's just too big a risk of infection in my opinion.
Edit: oh looking at other comments, I was talking about 2-3 year olds. Once you get into Year 5 or so of school you should be able to look after them no problem.
I had my first set done when I was 10 and I was really scared but I chose to do it. And then I wished my parents had done it when I was young so I'd have it done and not remember the pain. It's not that horrendous though, I had my second set done when I was 14.
I won't be taking my children to get their ears pierced until they choose to (if they choose to). I'm more worried about them getting infections as their bodies are young with weaker immune systems or them getting the studs caught and tearing their ear lobe when they are playing. I think if my child chose to have it done, I still wouldn't let them until they are about 8 years old.
I had mine done at about 10 after asking for a few years. I think parents should wait until their kids can make their own decision, and make sure they know the risk & responsibility behind it!

I had my ears peirced at at a very young age. I think I was 1 or something? I see nothing wrong with it. It looks cute and it's not as if it's phyiscally hurting the child. It's like giving them an injection. And when the child grows up and and tends to hate it, just leave them opened for them to heal shut. There's no problem... I have 9 peircings in my ears, and one in my stomach. Doesn't bother me.

Its kinda like the circumcision debate. Except the other is mutilating and permanently ******* up one of mans most precious possessions.
It should be left for the child to decide when they are adults. Its their body.
