People should be able to remain anonymous and do what they like with that power
But really they shouldn't fake themselves online because I imagine it's quite mentally damaging
They shouldn't fake their identify, just keep it private and as Futz said above people should be able to remain anonymous. :)
Well people do, so it is allowed? There's catfish all over
no of course not lol what would be the point if everyone was a faker
i can sympathise a bit with people who fake because they have major insecurities etc but it really does **** me off when people fake pictures because if you don't feel confident bout urself and don't want to post pics, just don't. the answer isn't to fake pictures so every1 thinks you're good looking lol. i imagine it feels weird when people are like complimenting ur fake pics and ur just like yeah cheers lol. plenty of people haven't posted pics of themselves and that's fine lol
Anyone who does normally gets found out in the end. There's been a few people on Habbox that have done that and other members of the community have found evidence that they have been faking since day one. Some fake pictures, some fake gender. Sure be anonymous and don't post pictures of yourself but when you start taking other peoples pictures and telling everyone it's you, seems a bit wrong.
Yeah there isn't really any harm if everyone thought chels looked like that or dogboy was older than he said he was etc. It's different if you're going to be meeting people though. Also, clearly wrong if there is intent to hurt (pedos etc). I've never seen the point myself though. It'd just get tiring keeping up with the lie all the time and if you're doing it because you're insecure, just going to continue that cycle when you do get found out and everyone (naturally) trusts/likes you a little less.
People can do what they want but people that catfish really annoy me. It's like I've spoken to you for years and you're not even the person you say you are. I would have no time for that person anymore. If you don't want people to know who you are, stay anonymous!
Personally if I did it and then I ended up coming on here, getting close with a load of people, eventually I'd want to tell them but I wouldn't be able to because I know they'll never trust me again and stuff
Well I've met both of you and you're both girls so ye!! stop lieing guys gosh
To answer the question, I never really understand why people do this. I think its fine to remain anonymous and like if you don't want certain details known then don't say them, but like pretending to be someone you are not just seems realllllly weird.
Yes, otherwise what would win Shock of the Year for the Habbox Awards?
I thnk it can be okay sometimes. If they really don't want anyone to know who they are. But if you're close with that person and speak with them all the time, I don't see why they still hide.
No but when it happens and people find out the truth its not good . its why i like watching the show catfish :P
yea sure but not to the extent of faking your pictures especially on dating websites just to lead ppl into thinking that you're pretty and whatnot
yeah they should. I don't really trust many people online that I meet due the anonymity of the internet. They don't have to prove who they are and I've known so many people and heard of stories where people aren't who they say they are and tbh I don't really care because it's so easy to lie to people about who you are.
They shouldn't lie but you can be just as secret and not share personal details.
@Zelda;
So long as you're not pretending to be someone else who actually exists, then I see no harm.
Umm I guess it's okay to a certain extent. If you've just changed your name or something then I don't see the problem at all. It can be a little disorientating for your online friends but what's in a name really? Lying about your gender is a bit more creepy but I'm not completely sure why.. It just is in my eyes.
Faking pictures is really creepy though. It's weird enough for the people online who have viewed you one way all the time they've known you and they turn out to be wrong. But I would be so weirded out if someone had been stealing my pictures and posting them on the internet, pretending to be me?? That's definitely crossing the line.
The internet is a chance to be whoever you want to be.
You can remain anonymous or make an alter ego to get you away from the outside world - you can be whoever you want to be. This, I understand. Maybe even using other people's pictures, not necessarily people that you know or asking people's pictures from forums and stuff but maybe off Google.
I don't think it's a problem when you, for example like me. I drift around this site, I don't know anyone properly. I just use this as something to escape from my life, and give a few opinions; maybe giving the odd detail of my life. However, I don't go on this site looking to make friends and get close to people - if I did then great but it's not an aim. I mean, I bet the large majority of you don't know my name, my age, or where I live. (Might be on my profile but if you didn't look there you wouldn't know).
However, I think if you come online looking for friends and to get close to people, you need to be yourself. It's not fair on the people that you're talking to to get close to this 'fake person'.
If people want to pretend then that's fine - it's likely that they'll slip up though.
lala
I think if you aren't pretending to be an actual existing person it's fine as you're not harming anyone. However if you get close to someone *like the people on catfish* then that's too far as you're messing with feelings there and you'd need to come clean or stop talking to that person.
i don't think so
