This is going to sound so mean and horrid but yeah... Loads of girls are taking make-up-less selfies and posting them on Facebook like "Raise awareness for breast cancer." I doubt it's just me but this is annoying. What do you want to achieve? And none of them actually care. ERG.
What are your thoughts on this?
(and it's even more annoying because the same girls following all these 'trends')

It's a good cause obv but I don't know what makeup has to do with breast cancer, and it's already one of the most funded and advertised cancers around. Haven't seen this happening myself though, prob a high school thing
I've seen a few pictures on Facebook today, doesn't really bother me though. If it's for a good cause then i'm all for it c:

Are they actually doing anything more than just that? Because that's about as useful as the pointless likes they will receive. Unless they're helping to fund it or anything useful it's a completely useless and selfish act. Also, does it really need more awareness? Everyone knows of it - being make-up less doesn't change that.
I wouldn't be able to find anyone who isn't already aware of breast/cancer

Maybe if a workplace did "come to work without makeup" for £1 and gave it all to Cancer Research, then that's different but just randomly posting selfies? Hm...

Just seen one of these on my facebook. It's quite cute seeing the girls without make up :) although I have no understanding of the relation to breast cancer :( People are like nominating people lol. Probably a massive task for a lot of girls
What about girls that never wear make up? I only wear make up if I'm going out with family and that's it.

Right I've come to the conclusion that it is just a Facebook hype, although wearing no making up has nothing to do with cancer, it gets loads of people doing it which is supposed raising awareness for cancer, although I don't think half of the girls know what they're achieving. They just need to donate
Seems daft to me. I've not seen it myself, but I very much doubt they're doing it for breast cancer.
I'm also annoyed at the way that all the comments aren't breast cancer related at all, instead they're just like "omg you're still so pretty without make up" "thanks babe no you are more pretty" "no way you are" etc. what about girls who never wear make up ever and still manage to look decent n better than those who do that then look like a completely different person when the take it off
Not sure how wearing no make up on their face raises any awareness, why don't they wear make up on their boobs surely that makes far more sense?
Either way this just sounds like it's actually counter productive, enforcing the idea that breast cancer is female only when men can get it too. And why is 90% of cancer related "awareness raisers" to do with breast cancer anyway? This whole concept has just annoyed me far more than it should have.
I don't understand what this has got to do with raising awareness/money, it all seems like an exercise in narcissism.
From what I've seen on my Facebook, it's an excuse for girls to post (edited) 'make-up free' selfies and be rained with compliments for being "brave" and "pretty without it". Being brave is going through cancer, being pretty without hair after you've struggled with chemo which has left you weak, gaunt & pale.
Not forgoing makeup, which you choose to wear in the first place.
A few people have started doing this on my Facebook... Not a single mention of it being for breast cancer or even how to actually support awareness... Natural selection should have picked these people out ages ago - thick as pig faeces.

gaurantee you the majority of the no makeup pics either have makeup on (really easy to make it look like you're wearing no makeup in a photo when you're still wearing a ****load) or have 100 filters
There's so many on my Facebook doing it, I'm even getting pictures of people I don't even know. I don't understand some of them posting though as some still had mascara on or looked really unnaturally orange. I'd rather just donate, I don't wear make up anyway, so it makes no difference if I'm nominated or whatever.
Finally seen one person do it, she actually provided links to cancer research sites and said she's donated £20 though so not quite the same as just taking a random selfie. Pretty sure she did still have makeup on though

Your friends are saints in comparison to ones I've seen :P Only one friend of mine has actually done it and gone on to provide links as well as donate £20. She provided a few videos of stories and a local charity too.Quote:

A cause stays a cause but some people doesn't take it seriously enough. A month ago we done a cause for someone we knew to raise money for a friend that needed money for an operation and our cause was to go outside in shorts and tanktop(girls) and shorts and no shirt(for boys) and lay in the snow for as long as you can and drink a beer and say "I support the cause and will give (amount of money) and nominate a few people and the one they nominates had the choice to do it as well to raise money. It was worth it as we got to our goal but of course there will always be people doing causes to not even support the actual cause.
I really don't see the point in it. I don't understand how posting a selfie is helping cancer in any way

suddenly exploded all over my facebook.. ****loads of girls doing it saying it's for a good cause and only seen about two that have ACTUALLY donated to the cause. seems like they're all just doing it for attention and it's really annoying. i also noticed a lot of them are still wearing makeup which really isn't doing what you're supposed to.. can say that if i get nominated i will not be doing it, will just donate instead, considering most people see me without makeup cus im too lazy to wear it sometimes.
Fair enough it's raising awareness. I imagine you've all been thinking about it more since the campaign started so it's clearly doing something positive
But those girls who clearly still wear makeup and just want attention...ugh.

I personally don't believe that it helps to raise donations and that some people would honestly wait for a nomination just to show off their flawless skin. But, by being as viral as it is it is at least raising awareness.
I posted my no-make up selfie (first selfie I've ever taken, just FYI) mainly because the people who nominated me would think I was a heartless ***** if I didn't and I don't need the **** for that :/
One thing I made sure to do, which is actually the point of this, was to include the information; text BEAT to 70099. Many people didn't bother. I've seen far too many posts along the lines of 'Thanks for my nom, sorry I look ugly. I nom (insert name here).' And the poster's main concern is for the attention and so people will say, 'no you are NOT ugly, you're beautiful.' Blah blah.
I have seen some good ones, especially from people I know have been affected by cancer, usually not themselves but a close family member. And you just know they are posting because they care. I've lost an aunt to breast cancer and she was so wonderful. I really wanted to mention all about her on Facebook but my uncle (her then-fiance) and many other family members are my friends on Facebook and I didn't want to say anything that they might want to keep private, so I kept it to myself. But I do like the ones where people have posted in memory of someone.
I honestly think a lot of them are from people who really do care, and that you can tell the ones who are just doing it for attention. I don't see a problem with it at the end of the day, if people don't like their feeds clogged up from it then they should just un-friend the posters, but I think that's a bit petty. It's not doing any harm. And I like to see all girls getting together for a good cause and being nice (for the most part) to each other. It's lovely.
On an unrelated note, I actually find it interesting to see what people look like without make-up. When you see people natural it makes you realise that flawless skin isn't something everybody has, but at the same time people don't actually need make-up to look pretty.
I have seen it happening heaps. I'm not sure about it, I think that some of the people are taking advantage of the situation to get attention. Whereas, other people are actually doing it for the cause, not sure how one no make up selfie is going to help breast cancer patients. I guess it's more of a support thing like if breast cancer patients saw it they would feel good that people are there to support them etc
