It looks like Bukkit is stopping development by the looks of this announcement here: http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/buk...oodbye.305106/
I'm not surprised, they were getting slower and slower with updating to each new minecraft version. Its a real shame though, bukkit is incredibly useful to many multiplayer servers
That was unexpected? Whats going to happen now :S
Bukkit may not actually go anywhere as Jeb tweeted that Warren seems to have forgotten it was bought by Mojang two years ago.
@Dinnerbone: To make this clear: Mojang owns Bukkit. I'm personally going to update Bukkit to 1.8 myself. Bukkit IS NOT and WILL NOT BE the official API.
It's been strikethrough'd and 'edit by Mojang', is that new? :P
So it's basically due to the EULA enforcement that they no longer with to develop it?
They seemed to mention EULA and the fact they don't have a specific license with mojang though :P
probably because they're still externally working 'for' them in a way.
like if you outsource development to someone, you'd have a contract/licensing with them.
Another dev guy leaving from the bukkit team who's posted a long announcement:

It's still down weird.
Wesley (Wolverness) as one of the main devs of Craftbukkit, but as stated Mojang have owned Bukkit and all work done within bukkit for over 2 years now.
Won't matter soon as probably be mostly re-written for 1.8 which i hope comes out soon.
Yeah it's just an ex developer being a little *****.
More Bukkit staff/contributors stepping down with a bunch of announcements being made within the past 24 hours:

Not surprising, soon as the main guy resigned I expected the rest to follow.
As obviously Mojang staff aren't going to be as close or whatever to the team as Evil was lol
Yeah well if Mojang said they'll be updating it to 1.8 they might have no involvement in it since Mojang will take care of it for the most past.
So no point sticking around as it wont really be a 'community effort' kinda thing.
Well Mojang didn't really say that, only one guy who works from Mojang did and that was because he was part of the "Bukkit project" at one point. But this was when EvilSteph decided to step down - Now with the take down notice and other people leaving. Who knows what will happen...
Didn't Jeb say he's taking over development? I don't recall him ever being part of Bukkit team? :P
Take down notice is from one of the current/ex developers (Wolver) being a little *****.
They'll either take out his code or fight it, as they purchased it years ago and he was actively part of the project when he implemented his code. So you can't quit and say oh that's mine!1!
Didn't the DMCA also state that it includes Mojang Server code without permission from Mojang (lol)
If Jeb said that then he didn't tweet it. It was Dinnerbone who said he was going to make sure it gets updated for 1.8. I doubt Jeb or most of the team even have time to take over Bukkit development - They are small team :P
To make this clear: Mojang owns Bukkit. I'm personally going to update Bukkit to 1.8 myself. Bukkit IS NOT and WILL NOT BE the official API.

The developer who submitted the DMCA is actually well within his rights, all his work was done under the GPL license which means everything else in Bukkit needs to be GPL, including the parts which are part of the Minecraft server source code (Which are technically closed source). Bukkit is in copyright violation for one of two reasons:
a) They've been distributing Minecraft's source code under GPL.
b) They've been infringing the individual developer's copyright by not distributing it under GPL as required.
Mojang have a few ways to get out of this, either release Minecraft's server source code under GPL, replace all the GPL code and update the license, get the individual developers to change their licenses.
