Macbook Pro

Hey everyone!

I just purchased a Mabook pro through work on sale! (Awwww yiiis, saved over $800, love working in IT)
But being someone who has always used PC, this is a nice learning curve, and I'm enjoying the new experience.

Now my only thought now is applications wise, what would you guys recommend.
Things I wouldn't really think of. I already am running the up to date version of Final Cut Pro, and those sorts of programs. Any cool little widgets, or applications would be awesome!

Do you even shortcut bro?

Think he probably meant to aid in copying and pasting. As far as i'm aware with mac, unlike windows, it's far more difficult to highlight several non continuous parts of text. i.e the beginning and end of a paragraph but not the middle.

I might be talking out my backside but I don't know a way to do this without apps.

I meant you can copy and paste more then one thing. It saves everything you have copy and pasted also

I use cloudapp to upload screenshots.

I did the same a while ago, it's nice having a computer that just works after dealing with fixing everyone else's all day - I can never decide between my macbook pro and my surface 2 when at home :P

Reeder is a personal favorite of mine for documents, and VLC still tops my list on both platforms for a media player. Growl is nice if you want phone-style notifications on your laptop, but I grabbed it while it was free - I think they charge a small amount now.

Is there anything in particular you're trying to do with it? Let me know and I'll direct you to some of the better programs available for the intended purpose.

I work in IT and I use my Mac as my work laptop. Nothing wrong with it, although I do have access to Windows machine which I can use if needed. Unless you were joking ;)

I'm on a computer science course, most of my lecturers have Macbooks. Lots of others people on my course have Macbooks. In some interviews I had recently for my industrial placement next year, experience with UNIX was a major plus in 5/6 interviews (hint OSX is both based on UNIX and fully POSIX compliant) Most of the people conducting the interviews used macbooks.

He was joking, I'm pretty sure his second line indicates he's working in IT and uses Macs too :P

My recommendations (these helped me from moving Windows -> Mac):

• #1 Must have - Bartender (http://www.macbartender.com/) It does cost but it's extremely useful if you have a lot of apps open.
• Hazel (http://www.noodlesoft.com/hazel.php) - If you're like me and download loads of files, then never get the time to tidy it, the Hazel is your app. Esentially can move all photos to /User/Username/Pictures etc. Very hand.
• Clocks for Mac (http://studiodalton.com/) - If you're like me and chat to friends from around the world, it's handy to know what time it is where they are, all at the same time.
• Clipbuddy (http://www.ondesoft.com/clipbuddy_mac/) - Ever copy text, or a link, then copy something else and hate yourself as you lost something important from your clipboard. Never again with this app.

So now you can do everything you used to be able to do... but you're automatically cooler because you own a Mac.
