He originally kept it in his bag during English class, but his teacher heard it beep during the lesson — when Ahmed showed her his home-made clock at the end of class, she took it away from him. In sixth period, the school principal came for Ahmed with a police officer in tow, arresting him and marching him out of school. The schoolboy says he was interrogated by five officers, who asked why he was trying to make a bomb, and was threatened with expulsion by his Principal unless he made a written statement.

Racism evidently - of course they'll deny it saying "they'd act this way if any child did something suspicious" but it's obvious that isn't the case.

Not at all. There's various examples in both America and some even worse in Britain where the Police have acted as thought Police or arrested people for the most absurd of things. Whether it's standing in the street quoting the Bible or this example. It's another demonstration of unchecked power, not racism.

It's what you get when you keep giving the Police more and more power as well as keep centralising them (as has been done in this country under the guise of terrorism laws and which Obama is trying to do in the US of A) yet everytime in the past when I have said abuses of power will happen more often by doing this I am shouted down by the safety-at-all-costs gang.

Im pretty sure if he was white & his name was robin or something then they wouldn't have been suspicous in the slightest

To be fair, if I saw this without context, the first thing I wouldn't think is that it might be a clock.

I have to agree, it doesn't look like a clock but I understand what they meant by their predictions; better safe than sorry I guess
But they shouldn't have accused him if they weren't 100% sure :l

Surely as a teacher you would simply ask the kid what it is rather than call the police and wait for them to surprise him with handcuffs

It looks more like a bomb than a clock. The teacher did the right thing and the fallout is very cringeworthy.

Doesn't take a massive genius to find out if there is explosives in the clock or not to be fair. Did they evacuate the whole school when the teacher found out then? Or did she just get the cops in and deal with it like that.

There was no need to put the boy in handcuffs though. Man, any electronics project he would work on is going to look like a bomb then. Circuit board, wires etc.

By the sounds of it he wasn't arrested until the end of the day so they obviously weren't that worried if they let school go on as normal until then

When I heard the news story it did seem a bit absurd, but from the actual picture it does look a bit..dodgy.

They over reacted due to his skin colour. Any normal teacher would speak to the kid properly about what it was and if she was really worried then taken him to the principals office alone to discuss. I am not saying they were wrong to report him, but the manner in which the school and the police treated the child is terrible.

A brown kid in America makes a clock, makes international news.
A white kid in America murders nine black people, doesn't make international news.

People will always be more wary of brown people. Hell I am and I am brown myself.

The BBC and others just can't get enough of it when a black criminal is shot by Police in America, and loves to play on the notion that American cops are going around shooting black people at random when if you look at the statistics it's often black on black shootings (with latino gang violence thrown in). I'd like the BBC and international media to for once report one of the numerous shootings by innocent people in America of all colours where they've defend their house and family by using a gun against criminal scum.

But that doesn't play into the anti-gun and anti-white agenda so we hear nothing.

Are you seriously comparing anti-gun (guns carried by the general public) to the ones carried by his security team? This is the most ridiculous comparison ever. In UK we do not allow the public to carry guns, thus lets do it so police and Camerons body guards have no guns.

I lived in USA for a year and traveled all over the country and didn't encounter racism once. I went there thinking I will face a lot of racism but was surprised by how helpful the people actually are.
