Too old for Habbo(x)?

Hi everyone, I've posted a similar thread on this before but have now officially made it into an article - which you can see HERE - and now as a debate.

Basically, I wonder whether or not there is an appropriate time to 'leave' Habbo(x)? For example, should someone my age (23!!) with 'responsibilities' still be here? What about the fact there are a few people with children on this website? Does the answer depend on whether you're still using Habbo, or only using the forum?

What do you all think? WHY are we all still here? Why are YOU still here?

I think for many people Habbo(x) is just a phase of their life and then they move on and forget all about it. I started playing when my brother did and then gave up not long after. Then when I went into year 7 a few people started playing so I found my old account and started using it again, and since then never really stopped except a few long breaks, which would make it about 12 years I've been using Habbo now, half my life :O I don't think there should really be any cut off point. Okay it's aimed at a younger audience but those of us that have grown up using it have maybe made it a bit of a habit?

There's been times where I haven't even logged on for over a year but then eventually end up coming back. Even with Habbox I signed up back in 2005 mainly for trading, it wasn't until recent years (turns out it was actually 2008 that I seriously became staff) that I finally became staff here after HabboMeadow where I used to do contenty stuff closed. Anyway back to the topic. When people develop friendships and such I think it encourages them to keep coming back, even if they fade away a lot of people still pop on periodically just to have a little catch up and see what is going on and who is doing what.

I think personally the main reason I still use the two sites is because myself and Kelly owe a lot to it. If it wasn't for Habbo(x) then we wouldn't be together, we wouldn't be living together and we wouldn't be engaged right now. Even if I weren't staff, I'd probably still pop on every now and then just see what is going on and stay involved. Even so, I don't really know what else I would do on an evening other than slob on the sofa and watch TV, might as well be doing something to entertain others at the same time!

I got completely sidetracked writing this so forgot where I was meaning to go with all this... all in all, I don't think there is really a certain cut off point for using Habbo(x) at all! At the moment there a quite a few users in their twenties that use both sites and it is perfectly acceptable, however I'm not so sure how acceptable it would be when we all hit 30, is that maybe the limit?

There are loads of Habbo(x) users being an adult over 20 (I'll be an adult in April cri) but if you're enjoying the game and our websites then why not stay? You might get people who go "ohhh so and so it 28 years old and s/he's still on Habbo(x), much be such a creep" but to be honest, the people who are still here must enjoy playing (and working) for Habbo(x) otherwise they wouldn't be here! So why not just leave them do it! Habbo has an age to start playing but I'm yet to see an age to stop playing... The Habbo staff are probably in their 20s and 30s and they still play Habbo (I know it's because they're staff but you get what I mean.)

My point is NO, there shouldn't be an age to stop playing, people can come to the conclusion themselves as when to stop playing and I respect them playing in their 30s if thats what they want to do!

I think like if you've been on habbo/x for a good few years and have a friend base, who cares if you're 30 and still come on? You're just coming on cos you have a set of friends who you wanna keep talking to and so on.

I think it only starts getting a tad weird when you're 30, never been on the game before and have no friends on it..then I guess you've gotta start thinking there's an ulterior motive cos it does look a tad odd.
But if you've been playing for a while/have friends on here then who cares?

i don't see a problem with age really, like I see Habbo just as any other game lmao
like you honestly get 30 year olds playing their xbox and wii's or whatever, it's the exact same except we're doing it online - just leave whenever you're ready

what if Habbox closed and someone created a non-Habbo fansites to go to - would it be acceptable then? id love to know what you all are up to in your 30's (and would hope you're all living in your own house w/ a career and family...)

what about if people are using the website as a coping mechanism or because they're lonely etc? is it acceptable then? i know in the past i used the site excessively because i was lonely and it sabotaged my real life.

I always figured you're never too old. its basically just a social network with moveable avatars, you're never too old for that much like facebook, but id feel awkward being on habbo one day and having my children on it the same time :(

I think one of the big things for Habbo users on Habbox is that we only use it because our friends are there. I don't know about anyone else but I know that I wouldn't use Habbo anymore if I woke up tomorrow and Habbox had closed because I am only ever in HxHD or the events room; I don't go on because it's habbo, I go on to see my friends. Big difference imo.

So in that light I don't think anyone is too old to carry on chatting with their friends.

ive only ever used Habbo for socialising. couldn't tell u the first thing about rares or hotel managers and ive used Habbo since 2004. whenever people say "remember in 2006 when ____" "remember this Habbo" i never do. i always spent my time with friends. likewise with HxF, i was never staff until last year and was never interested in writing about habbo or organising events on Habbo etc. so i totally get that. but i don't really have friends left on here and im still here, i guess cause of memories? everytime someone comes back to HxF after years away i always get rly happy theyre back. but lots of people leave and go on to do better things with their life, so i always wonder why some people go away and some stay - am i lacking something in my life? i know that in the past when my life was good, i wouldn't feel the need to come on here, then when it got bad id be back.

I remember when I was younger and all my habbo friends would say 'o I'm leaving once I'm 16' or 'no way will I be playing
habbo at 18' now 19 I'm still here and I see a lot of my old friends still come on. I have friend who is 61 and she is friends with
a lot of older habbos from around 25-30 but we mainly use it to talk. She only plays habbo as her kid was a mod but shes lovely and shes a really good friend and I find with her being older she has a lot of wise advice. If you enjoy playing habbo and enjoy

I mean its a good question, I don't really play Habbo as such, I mean I log on once every few weeks to see whats going on but thats it. All my pals are on skype, or facebook or even Habbox.

Habbox is another story, Ive been part of Habbox for 10 years, I think i struggle to let go off it as I have no reason to leave it, I barely post now sure, as the threads are dead and the moderation is ran like poorly, but I think I'll always log on and post here and there

i thinklike empired said most people stay for friends tho like with habbox you can get proper close to peeps and despite them being from the internet the peeps still mean a lot to you its not as easy as logging off one day n never talking to anyone again cos you do proper care

I was going to say I'm here for the people, but I'm not sure quite how true that is since the people I mainly speak to on here changes quite frequently, with times where I don't really talk to anyone in great depth and basically just lurk. I guess before, I primarily used HabboxForum out of habit at a point, which consequently means I started to get to know people (especially since I used the HabboxForum Minecraft server back in 2012) and ultimately got sucked in properly. I don't actually think I really knew many people on the forum prior to that.
I'm still going to say I use HabboxForum and Habbo basically out of habit and boredom. There's no particular person(s) or content which keeps me coming back at all since I could just go to Reddit or somewhere more active in general. Having said that, perhaps I do enjoy that I can go in a thread and easily recognise people, unlike other online communities where it's just so active that you can't keep up (or, at least, I've never tried to).

It's funny that when I was 13/14 or so, I thought to myself I would stop using Habbo(x) by 16 as that seemed like the "cut off age" to me. Almost 5 years later...

Also on a bit of a side note, what method is used to find the average in that graph?

I actually love your way of thinking! eEducate our kids on the joys of habbo! My little girl would love it and a good user name and like you said furnatur she be on her way! Enjoying everything j did about habbo making friends, doing quests and trying to win games! Habbo and this site has been part of my life for years now , and I don't actually think regardless j wanna give it up haha !

No there isn't an age limit as long as you were a kid when you first joined, it's weird if you're 24-25 and joining this now... Why you'd want to start being part of a kids game at that age worries me deeply.

Concerning Habbox staff cuz I think that's a whole other basket, it's one thing logging in and seeing whose online, it's another actually dedicating a lot of your time to it and bossing around people who are going to be way younger than you. I think the limit on that should be about 22... That's not concrete, but you may see what I'm getting at in that 18-20 you're at University (most likely) or starting a new job and you have more responsibilities. By 20-22 you're getting onto your feet, probs looking at other jobs and growing up. Past 22, you're becoming a fully fledged adult, own house (probs) or just graduating into the real world. After that, if you're still working as Habbox staff I think that's a bit strange, there's more to life beyond 21 that doesn't involve managing kids half your age. If that's what you'd like to do, maybe do it as a career in being a youth worker otherwise spending your free time doing that is a weeeeee bit strange.

Each to their own though, not everything is as black and white as that and some stick around because they have very few friends IRL, mental issues they hide or just don't feel accepted in the real world and come to hide on here which is totally okay...

That's such a weird attitude to take. "Ew you should stop doing that hobby you enjoy because you're too old" just seems depressing. Nothing to be embarrassed about if you're 25 and still enjoy being HxHD staff, and I don't think it's anyone else's place to be telling you you should stop enjoying something because you should be getting a house lol!

Habbox has been an important part of my life - it's offered me friends when I was too socially anxious to leave the house and I'm so glad I found it. I'm sure there are a lot of people in fairly similar situations to me and it's nice to want to give something back to a community that's been such a big part of many of our lives.

If you've got to a point where you don't need Habbox anymore, Ryan, then I congratulate you and you're in a better place than I am. But don't tell the rest of us what we should/shouldn't be doing and then try and make up up for it with a quick "each to their own though lolz" bolted on at the end. We all go through things at our own pace.

I don't use habbo, and haven't actively for about 4 years. Habbo may as well be non-existent for me, it's genuinely only Habbox that still keeps me around.

Even though Habbox is barely active, threads don't interest me and the majority of friends I have contact with outside the forum - I still find myself opening the forum just to see what's happening

I think it's impossible to pinpoint an age but it feel it's a lot down to the situation. Obviously the majority of us elders use Habbo(x) as either a force of habit or to socialise with friends, you can't put an age on that

I've got friends that are in their late 20's and still play the game, in my opinion around 28+ is too old for it as you may know with the whole Channel 4 thing that went on :/

People use the site for loads of different reasons, because they're bored, because they're lonely, because they want to make friends. Whatever it is, its completely up to them if they want to play or not.

I still play games. I probably always will. I was playing Pokemon Blue yesterday, a game that's 20 years old (in Japan). Does that mean I'm too old for Pokemon?

What I was thinking.

Plus I should think the majority of the evidence they found on the C4 'scandal' will be stupid hormonal boys whose brain is located in their pants begging "ADD ME 4 CAM LADIES" even though they haven't actually hit puberty so there's nothing of them to see.

I constantly have this argument with my brother. My brother is 21 and we both joined Habbo around the same time but he left when he was 15 cos he thought he was too old for it. He now thinks that because he's not playing it because he's too old, I shouldn't be allowed to play it (include Runescape in this too because I tend to switch between the two). He thinks I should be a normal person who goes out, gets drunk, goes out some more, gets drunk some more and it doesn't seem to cross his head that perhaps I just don't want to do that? Maybe just maybe I am not actually depressed or lonely. I've always felt more lonely at parties even though there are tons of people there. Perhaps it's simply because I have decided to do the things I want to do, that I enjoy, rather than do things I don't want to just because they're the norm.

Admittedly, Habbox has become less enjoyable over the years and I seem to log on out of a sense of loyalty rather than because I like the people here. I do of course but like Tom, I very rarely speak to any of you. My whole day used to be about juggling multiple conversations with different people here. Now, I see people's names and wonder who they are but that's how it should be. People move on not because they're too old* but because that's life.

I'm 21, soon to be 22. I've naturally stopped using Habbo and Habbox but still occasionally play just because I can. I don't think there's an age. If you play the game as its intended and follow the rules, play until you're 90!

Wow, I feel like you took that way more personally than it was intended, your response is very telling and I suspect it's not the first time you've heard that opinion, probably from somebody IRL!

Alas, I wasnt telling anybody how to live their life, I was stating my opinion however popular or unpopular that may be. If you don't like that opinion, fine, but no need to get all personal over somebody just airing their thoughts.

Fair enough, apologies if that's how I came off. You just seemed to take a very hard line of anyone over 22 (or thereabouts) = creepy or something wrong with them.

There's plenty of people here I could use as examples of people who are absolutely not creepy and do not have anything wrong with them, they just enjoy a site that they've gone through adolescence with. Why does that have to be a bad thing?

You're right, the point I was disputing about older people on hxf having something wrong with them wasn't made by you, sorry.

I don't believe there really are many 'children' left on hxf though? Which children are you referring to? The youngest truly active hxf members are currently in their first year of sixth form, and I wouldn't consider them to be children anymore. One of the things brought up again and again in Feedback is the ageing population at Habbox and how we have basically no younger users to replace the ones who leave.

People always argue that you ought to give up video games etc when you have children and i agree, to a degree. It really depends on the person for me and I think that if you're in your late 20s and spending 11 hours on habbo per day then i doubt it's doing you the best but at the same time if that person really enjoys what they do then they're totally free to do it!

I'm not trying to say that no.

I'm 24 this year and it is quite scary I am still here. It's approaching that point where I have been on here for half of my lifespan!

I guess whilst there are people my age still here I will still be here.

If it comes to the point though where I leave I might do a @MissAlice; and pop by now and again. :)

I'm 23, still playing Habbo...

I don't see a problem with it, I've been playing for more than 10 years and see no reason to quit.

I get a lot of hate for playing at my age from other Habbos but that doesn't discourage me at all, because I know it makes me happy.

In my own opinion I believe that if you enjoy doing something, age shouldn't change that. After all it is just a number.

im 22 and i played habbo daily almost my whole life, since i was 5. I dont see a problem with it. I wished there was 18+ rooms though, like legit 18+ rooms hosted by habbo, where you need like show your ID at habbo registration or something to be able to enter teh rooms. and in teh rooms you can curse and stuff however much youd like. xD

i mean, i don't see the issue with people who are 20+ playing habbo still and having roles at habbox either, that's their choice and i don't see anything wrong with it especially because the game has been a big part of a lot of our lives?? but do i want to be playing for the majority of my twenties? not really. but that's only habbo, with habbox, there are a few people here who i do like to keep in touch with and i do like to read stuff on the forum too so that's the only reason i log on. as for habbo as it is undergoing some changes, i probably won't play as much going forward (i hope) unless alex needs me to help him build rooms or something
