I have a Qashqai, not exactly a decent car, but it does the job.
What's your budget?
Being a car transporter, I get to drive literally every major car out there (Apart from supercars sadly) so I know what I like in a car and which cars drive the best and whatnot.. But budget has a major effect on this lol.
Are you going PCP, HP/Finance or straight up purchase?
I don't have a budget specifically, just looking for something realistic
I have a 208 atm on PCP, which isn't the most comfortable car on longer distance drives and generally a boring/slower car, I'd probably go for another PCP/lease then change again in a couple of years.
Thinking of something like a BMW 1 series, isn't too much of a change size wise and it's a bit 'higher end' and better looking than the 208.
Alternatively Mazda CX3..
I personally don't like BMW's unless they're automatics, as I find the clutch on them too stiff, I'm all about the lazy life and having a stiff clutch makes me use more energy lol.
For a similar size to a 208 then I'd recommend an Audi A3... or if your budget allows and speed is something you'll enjoy then the S3, or even the RS3 which is the cheapest RS version that Audi offer, but still 40+ grand lol.
or if you want a higher end car, then I'd recommend the Volvo S90 or S60, they're a little bigger than a 208 considering they're both saloon cars, as opposed to hatchbacks, but they're super nice to drive and look well suited for any occasion IMO.
or a cheapish car I rather like is the Hyundai i30, they're cheap and cheerful, but not tacky, and they drive pretty well too, have a lot of gadgets in their reasonable cost, from Lane assist to Auto-full beam etc.
I'm not a huge fan of BMW's 1 series as well as they tend to be like boyish race cars but I like the look of it and the engine on/off button that all BMWs tend to have tbh lmfao
I like the Mazda's absence of a handbrake, but I've not test drove any yet.
PCP deal is up in May so I'll probably switch car in Jan/Feb
The S3/RS3 looks a fair bit bigger than the 208 though.
I've only ever drove small cars so kind of putting myself off getting a bigger one.. so S60/S90 falls into that category too being much bigger than the 208
Most new cars these day have keyless entry, which tend to have a Stop/start button for the engine.. Same applies to electronic handbrakes, which personally I dislike.
Depends what RS3/S3 you looked at, they do a hatchback version of them both, which is around the same size as the 208, perhaps ever so slightly bigger, but not a lot in it. But yeah the Volvo is a lot bigger. I think the smallest new-ish car Volvo do is a V40, they're fairly decent to drive and Volvos hold their value.
I agree that a 1 series is often found to be owned by boy racers who never grew up but are earning a little more than minimum wage now, previously upgraded from their Corsa C or VXR lol.
Should venture out and get used to driving a bigger car, it'll open up more options for you, and won't take you long to get used to the new size anyway.
You'll have to let us know what you decide to go for when the time comes.. No harm in test driving all these cars and picking which you prefer out of them all.
I don't have a car, but my parents have a Citroen Xsara, my boyfriend has a Fiat Punto and my sister has a Hyundai i20 (she did have an i30 but now has this one and it has so much more space than the i30).
I have an Astra.
