Over the last few months there's been lots of upgrades to our wonderful wiki. It's about time we put out a thread for all of the recent changes. So as well as the 'boring' upgrades (hey, we upgraded our extensions and the main code to Mediawiki 1.35!), here's what we've been up to.
Making it easier to edit
We've enabled Visual Editing on the wiki for the first time. When you're on a page, you'll see two options - Edit and Edit Source.
Edit is the new Visual Editor, and Edit Source is the old code editor many of you will be familiar with. Some things only work in edit source just FYI!
In the new Visual Editor, you can interact with text, tables and even infoboxes right there on the page - making it much easier to edit. Just click where you want to type... and type away! Click on tables for more tools such as adding rows, and even click infoboxes to change the content there. You can add links, images and text all right there.
Here's a quick demo of some of the Visual Editor features.
Making it easier to navigate
Our team are always hard at work creating and updating Infoboxes and Navboxes to help you navigate. We've also launched a new sidebar with links to popular pages and other Habbox sites. Last year, we also launched Advanced Search on the site, allowing you to narrow down your search very easily.
We've also added preview popups which show up on links around the Wiki giving you a bit of a taste of what the page holds.
Making it harder to spam
As many people know the Wiki has been a target of Spam bots for years. We've tried many solutions, but our new combo means we think we have one that finally works! That means no more viagra, CBD adverts or dodgy links.
You may be blocked from editing if you include a link or some dodgy words, but if you are just pop any Wiki admin a message and we'll sort you out.
Making it more interactive
We've included new features on the wiki to make it more interactive.
Our new Portal pages gather together related items for big campaigns in Habbo's history, including featured articles, lists of campaigns and images with new list and gallery functions, giving you a one-stop shop for all things related to a campaign.
We've launched new charts and graphs to visualise data on pages - such as the HC payday data on the Habbo Club page and countdown timers to events such as LTD releases and Habbox events.
We've even automated the total row counter for LTD tracking, so when you add a new row, it will update to show how many owners we have.
The Wiki was first started 10 years ago, this year, and has come a long way since then. Pages and templates are edited every day - from new campaigns to LTD owner tracking to deeper research on Habbo's rich history.
The team is incredible and we love seeing how many members of the wider Habbo community view or contribute to the Wiki every day. We hope these edits make your Wiki experience even better, and please do let us know if you have any more suggestions!
