Don't stop being his friend thats just really harsh! Just ask him why he does it and tell him you dont feel all that comfortable around him smoking.

My parents smoke. I don't hate them for it. You'll get passive smoking in nearly any public place you go to.. so with your mate isn't much. Be his friend, personality counts.. ;\

You dont need to fall out with someone because they smoke! You wont die of passive smoking if youre only next to the person now and again. If youre breathing it in 24/7 then yeh but you arent gonna die! Jeez!
