Can you get served without ID?

Whether or not you are over sixteen/eighteen, can you get served without ID In shops? I cant I tried to buy a lottery ticket yesterday without ID,but Sainsburys just werent having it

In pubs/clubbing in my town/shops no probs most of the time, but clubbing in the City they are really strict and I usually get ID'ed most of the time.

I have bought cigarettes (not for me, I don't smoke) before, without much trouble... it might be because the person who served me knows me though
As for a lottery ticket, I have never tried so I don't have a clue. And alchohol? No way Unless in Spain counts?

Yep - I'm always told I look older for my age anyway so it's not generally been a problem, lol.
