Uhm about the area..
i actually think it looks alot bette with area then lodge corners.. also more original so area is staying, also the white and purple pillows to cause i love them

change the floor colour
change the wall colour
remove the tinsel
get 2 more abstract posters
straighten them up
get two white pillows in booths, instead of 1 white 1 purple

that should just about do it!
