Updated weekly at 09:32 GMT on Monday

This week, in a special Generation Next edition, Culture Shock focuses on trends that are being driven by the under 18s. As well as our usual trend expert, Sheila Moorcroft, Tim Marlow is also joined by teen trend spotter from New York, Steve Guttbinder.
We hear how in Japan fashion is not being dictated by fashion editors but by teenagers themselves. Many shops are now hiring young girls to act as their fashion consultants.
We find out why abuse of prescription and over the counter drugs among American teenagers has taken off on an unprecedented scale. The growing phenomenon has even got its own name, pharming and its own parties, called pharma parties, during which teenagers exchange, combine and consume pharmaceuticals.
We pay Habbo hotel a visit, a 3D virtual online community almost exclusively for teenagers. Millions use it every day and such high concentration of teenagers hasn't gone unoticed by record companies. And in that sense, Habbo has been breaking the boundaries between bands and their fans, with McFly, Shayne, and this month U2 coming onto the virtual world to promote their music.
And we have a trendtrackdown from Brazil, with a special focus on teenagers, including birthday parties at the hairdresser's.

    Here's something:

    Interview with Alistar Williams [UKChaserAl]

UKChaseral: Basically it's a virtual meet and greet where celebraties come into our office, we make them an account and character and they just interact and engage with the community like other Habbos, I mean that's the power of it, the fact that they're getting involved with fans and talking to them on their own level. The internet has changed the relationship between their fans and the actual celebrity. So we're just trying to take that a step further and allow a whole new connection. The consumer expects to play an active part in the relationship and give a 2-way communication if you will, and that's what's starting to happen.

    Took me ages.

    KrazyHouse is scottish aye?
