    Default [ Bladder ][ Fishing Guide ][ 1 - 99 ]

Here's an easy-to-follow and slightly colorful fishing guide!
    Hope it helps you!

Things you need to know BEFORE you start fishing!

Never take your eyes off the screen! You can lose your items! There are three ways this will happen, shown below.

    1. River Troll. This big troll doesn't like you catching his fishies! He will attack you and, if you’re not looking, you could die!

    2. BIG FISH. This big fish will come out of the water and grab your fishing gear. He will then spit it out somewhere close by.

    3. Whirlpool. This whirlpool will grab your fishing gear and KEEP it. Note: It will only take your fishing items if you cast out right when it appeared, or if you cast out after it appeared. If you were already fishing, don't worry. You can't lose anything.

Fishing spots tend to move. They don't stay in the same spot for long. This requires a lot of moving around.

Also, if you open up the Runescape World Map and click on the icon, it will blink all fishing spots in the Runescape World for 3 seconds. This is helpful for getting around.

    Level: 1 - 20

Now, you will need to be in Al Kharid to start fishing. It is east of Lumbridge castle. You will need to pay 10gp to go through the gate, or you can go around the fence for free. You will need a small fishing net to get started. Once you have that, go to the water just south of the Al Kharid Bank. Click "Net Fish". You will start catching shrimps. When you have a full load, you can bank them at the bank, or drop them and continue to fish. When you get to level 15, you will start catching anchovies along with your shrimps. You can net fish until level 20. If you wish to spend some money, at level 5, you can start to fish sardines. You will need a fishing rod and some bait. The best place to get that is the Port Sarim FishingStore. (Look at map) You will need about 300 fishing bait. You will need to get back to Al Kharid, so either pay the 10gp or go around the fence like before. Once you are back at the same fishing spot, right click and click "Bait Fish". You will start catching sardines. Keep doing that until you get to level 10. Then if you are still Bait Fishing, you will start catching herring. You can do that up to level 20.

    Level: 20 - 30

I hope you were thankful that there was a bank close by with your first 20 levels of fishing! Now, for these levels, you will need a fly-fishing rod and loads of feathers. You can, also, get these items at the Port Sarim Fishing store. Now, if you wish to save some cash, you can go to the chicken coop (North-east of Lumbridge Castle) and kill chickens. You will need about 300 Feathers. Now, once you have those items, go to the BarbarianVillage (West Of Varrock). You will see the fishing symbol north of the bridge. Go there and start to fly-fish. You will only catch trout. Now, if you wish to bank these fish and get some cash, you can head north a bit to the Edgeville Bank. This is a time waster and is not recommended. Now, you can continue to fly-fish trout until you get level 30, or you can bait fish pike when you get level 25. You will need about 150 bait in order to get your fishing level up this way. If you don't, continue to fly-fish. Another fly-fishing spot is just east of the LumbridgeCastle. It's on the west side of the goblin area. It is close to the chickens, so if you run out of feathers you can go and get more.

    Level: 30 - 40

Now it gets slower. You will need about 300 - 400 feathers for these levels. You will be fly fishing until you get to level 35. Stay in the same spot and fish salmon now. You will get a lot of trout mixed in with your salmon. You can keep doing this way until you get to level 35. Now, if you wish, you can take a trip on board a boat in Port Sarim for 30gp to Karamja. Before you go, you will want to stop at the fishing store and get a harpoon and a lobster pot. Once you get there, go into the banana field, and find the docks. You can then harpoon tuna until you get to level 40. Again, if you don't want to, double the amount of feathers you need, and keep fly-fishing.

    Level: 40 - 50

This is the slow level area now. If you haven’t already, you need to buy a harpoon and a lobster pot, pay 30gp to get to karamja, and go to the docks. When you are there, find a fishing spot that says "Lobster Cage fishing". You then will start to catch lobsters. You can either go to the general store and sell them for a cheap price, or you can drop them on the ground. There is no bank on the island, so there is no way you can get to a bank. Also, Runescape players will come and offer 100gp +/- for raw lobsters. If you wish, you can sell to them. Now, from level 40 - 50, there is nothing else to do but sit and fish lobsters. If you want, you can fish tunas, but you will get less Exp, and will take more time.

    Level 50 - 62

Now, at level 50, you can start to fish swordfish. Tuna will also be mixed up with the swordfish, so don't think it's your fault. Swordfish is the highest non-member fish that you can...fish. So you can either keep fishing swordfish and tuna until you get to level 99, or you can get membership and gain faster. So, the rest of this guide will be member only. Member or not, you can only fish swordfish until you get to level 62. If you have an oily rod (Quest Item) you can fish lava eel in the middle of the lava maze in the wilderness. If you don't you need to wait until you get level 62.

    Level 62 - 76

Now is the slow hard part. If you have done the Swan Song Quest, you can go to the Piscatoris Fishing Colony and fish monkfish there. You can do that until you get level 76. If you haven’t done the Swan Song Quest, you can keep fishing swordfish until you get to level 76. At level 65, if you've got a Karambwan vessel (Quest Item), you can go to the south-east corner of Karamja and fish Karambwan. If you haven’t you will need to get to level 76 with swordies. Another thing is, when you get level 68 fishing, you can enter the Fishing Guild. There is lots of fishing spots with a bank, Range, and fishing store right next to each other! In the entry room, there is also fishing items that spawn regularly. From here, you can fish and bank until you get to level 76. If you're not level 68, Catherby if a great place to fish.

    Level: 76 - 81

Now is the time you've been waiting for! When you get level 76, you can fish sharks! Raw sharks can sell anywhere from 500gp - 1000gp! Sharks take a long time to fish, but are worth it. If you really want to power up fast, get about 200K feathers, do the Shilo Village Quest, and go into Shilo Village (South On Karamja). There is a fly-fishing spot and bank right there, so you can fish and bank quickly! You will get less Exp, but will get Exp faster than fishing sharks. You can do this until level 99, or when ever you want to stop. When you get level 79, you can go to the fishing trawler (Look At Runescape Manual) and play that minigame. You will get fishing Exp, and be able to catch Sea turtle. When you get level 81, you can continue to do it and catch Manta Ray, the best fish in the game! If not, continue to fish sharks or power fly-fish.

    81 - 99

This is the most patient part of the whole fishing experience. From here on out, you can fish anything you want to, to get Exp. I recommend either fishing sharks, lobsters, or power fly-fishing. You can have some fun and do Fishing Trawler, but you will need time, friends, and money. Keep fishing until you get level 99. Once you hit the best level, go talk to the master fisherman (Outside of the Fishing Guild) and ask him for a cape. It will cost some money. Now, you can truly say, you are a master of fishing!
