    Default Rearranging Formula

    Hey guys, I need help, I'm going fine in year 10 atm except this is the one thing that doesn't click with me.

    like:

    Make X the subject of the formula.

    Y = 7y x 4x

    or whatnot hard to explain without writing

    Whats the pattern to work it all out, I just DONT get it!

    Thanks.

    You have to get x on it's own:

    eg.

    Y = 28xy => Y/28 = xy => Y/28y = x

    :]

    All you have to do is try and get x on it's own by dividing the other side by everything attached to x...

    Hope that helps x]

    Thanks, still kind of confused though. People tell me you have to do whatever you can to get X on it's own. There is no pattern? + rep

    There is no universal pattern... although the same things apply. You need to get everything else on the other side first (where the x isn't) and then you need to make sure the x is by itself (e.g. if it's being mulitpied by 4, 4x, you need to divide the other side by four)... therefore getting rid of it!

    y / x = y[over]x = 7y x 4
    / y = x = 7 x 4[over]y

    I think...

    x must be on its own on its own side of the equation so you must have something that says x=whatever. When you move something that is on one side of the equation to another (to get x on its own) it becomes the opposite so + becomes - and - becomes + and divide becomes x and x becomes divide.

    its fairly simple. Whenever you move something over the other side of the "=" sign, it changes to the opposite symbol. ie

    7y+6x=x
    so
    7y=x-6x

    Geddit?

    So your equation...
    Y = 7y x 4x
    now this has a times (x) in it, so when u move it over it becomes a divsion

    so you get this

    1y/7y=4x
    so 1/7Y=4x
    or 4x=1/7y
    now divide the 4 x by 4, to get x. and whatever you do to one side you do to another, so then divide 1/7y by 4

    which = 1/28y
    so x=1/28y
    COS A SED SO RITE.

    just practice. don't be affraid to ask your teacher if you don't get it, and if they're crap at explaining it ask another teacher.
    if you get stuck on any post them up and we'll (well, i will anyway) try to help.
