    Basic Pronunciation
    'ei' is pronounced like the English letter 'I' and 'ie' is pronounced like the English letter 'E'
    'w' is said like the English sound 'v'
    'v' is said like the English sound 'f'
    'z' is said like 'tz'
    'j' is said like the English 'y' (as in 'yacht' rather than 'job')
    The 'ß' sign is pronounced 'ss' or 'sz'

    maybe its the pommy accent or something. but when i lived in switzerland we said it like this:

    ah A
    beh (like meh but with a b) B
    seh C
    deh D
    eh E
    ef F
    geh G
    ha H

    and so on.

    Its hard to write how the letters sound

    Yeah, the different countries learnt slightly different versions. My first German teacher was Austrian and when I got a new one who was German she had to re-teach quite a lot of stuff that the Austrian had taught. It wasn't that she'd taught it wrong, just she'd taught a dialectal German instead of "proper" German. It's the same as teaching a foreigner how to speak Liverpudlian instead of English without an accent
