Now, I don't know if this is how Work Experience is for other schools, seeing as i've never been to one, but my school is different to like... every other school in the world (only 3 periods a day, finish at 1.30 on some days, every student has their own laptop).
Basically, every Friday for two years, at five different places. The KS4 Internship Programme is an innovative way of replacing the traditional 2 week work placement that students do during their last 2 years at school. Rather than having just one experience of the place of work, we offer our students 5 placements throughout the 2 years. All students from the age of 14 are required to do work-related learning as part of the curriculum and our thinking is that there is no better place to learn about the world of work than to actually be in the world of work.
At the start of Year 10, when the students are 14 going on 15 they start their first placement, which lasts until Christmas. Then each term they change placements, so that each student gains experience of an Admin, ICT, Retail and then 2 vocational areas of work. Throughout the 2 years the students then have a good idea of what their strengths and weaknesses are and they will have covered a wide range of tasks and skills, equipping them to go confidently into the world of work. They complete their placement every Friday and they last for 10-12 weeks.
