Basically, I need urgent advice haha. I'm in college,
+ the bleeping connexions advisor is so busy I can never seem to get an appointment. It's terrible.
Right I'm going onto the path of primary school teaching, well, that's where I want to be, and i'm pretty sure that my lessons are going off track a bit.
I mean, i chose health + social double award and at the moment it really isn't contributing to me having any experience at all of teaching. It's all about caring for older people and communicating. Now dont get me wrong i know it does fit in to it, but i'm worried i've chosen the wrong subjects. I've taken double health + social, and history. So i'm pretty sure I need to take up another subject too. :| Anyone going onto the teaching path and could tell me what is most recommended as a subject to take in AS/A-level to contribute to a teaching career?

I think you'd need to pick the subjects you'd want to specialise in. Like if you want to be an English teacher, then pick English and crap like that.

In a primary school you have to have the basics of everything. So I took history as that's what I want to specialise in, + i do have the basics I passed the GCSE's needed. I just don't know what to do as well as History. I really don't want to teach a high school + specialise in just one subject but teach it to lots of classes. Not really my cuppa tea.

At primary school the teachers teach everything. Well, mine did. You didn't move around for lessons etc, you stayed in your class.

Maybe if your Connexions advisors are busy, as one of your college mentors or w.e, or maybe even ask someone who is training to be a teacher, or even is a teacher.

Yeah asking your teachers would probably be a good idea as they've done it. However I don't think it matters too much until uni as far as I'm aware.

I'm sure primary school teachers have to have done like maths, English, science etc. Health and care wouldn't matter because you'd get taught the health and safety regulations before you got the job anyway.

I also wanted a career in Primary Teaching. For College I chose a BTEC rather than A Levels, and its a BTEC Nat Dip in Early Years. As part of the course you work 2 days a week in a primary school and its really good to carry you on to teacher training colleges and universities !
